Title: A Shiny New Two Pound Coin!
Post by: MrBump on May 08, 2010, 09:27:44 AM
Yes!  I'm officially making money as a musician!!!

The Fallen Poets had their second gig last night, and our share of the take on the door was a whopping £2 each!!!

Awesome.  Been playing the guitar for 25 years, and that's the first time anyone has paid me to do it...

I hope you have declared it. Hopefully this will be the first of more cash.

It's always good to get some money back from gigs!  I've always been in original bands and hardly made anything but over the last year got into covers which has earned more.  Were getting £500 for our next gig which means I can really start to buy some good stuff with the earnings now!

So keep going and that £2 will be £20, £50 or £100 for future gigs.

(I do have to play 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton to get that though :?)

Congratulations,

Always nice to do what you love and not be out of pocket for the pleasure. When Mr taxman call's don't forget you spent it on some new strings.

^ and petrol...

And the guitars, amps, BKPs, leads, etc (you kept receipts?)...
Paying for rehearsals...
Stage-clothes (those natty "real-men-play-teles" y-fronts)
Hair-gel, etc...

So, did the gig itself go well? Were you worthy of £2 each?
:D

It was OK - Steve, the singer/songwriter had a bad throat, and so wasn't on top form.  Nice set up though, good PA and sound system.

The kids even let me sleep in until nearly 9 this morning!!!

I agree on the pics or it didn't happen.  There's a real sense of fulfillment when you get paid for doing something you love. I'm really pleased for you, it's incredibly cool.

I've never been paid for music (for pretty obvious reasons) but I remember as a spotty 16 year old being paid for some photos I took of a craft fair and even though once I'd figured in costs of film etc. I actually turned no profit it felt so good.
