Title: Bridge pickup for Esquire
Post by: Ian Price on May 09, 2010, 02:24:37 PM
I'm at the stage of my self build where I need to think about the pickup. I've decided to go for an Esquire to keep costs down. Would love to get my hands on a BG-1400 but I can't find anywhere to order one from at a decent price.

I will more than likely be going for a BKP. I've read good things about the BG Flat 50 but I'm not sure if it will give me what I want. Basically I'm looking for a classic rock sort of pickup - I'm not too interested in cleans for the Esquire. I just want something that rocks out.

Any ideas? I've been thinking about the Brown Sugar and the Boss but haven't heard too heard too much about those.

I'd go with one of your top two choices mate - the BG-1400 or a Flat 50  :)

That'll be the flat 50 then! Unless you want to rip the BG-1400 out of your CS and sell it to me

I know Feline had two BG-1400s on order so they might be in stock now.

Give Jon a shout.

(snip)

The Boss and BS are very probably pretty good choices too - and possibly better one depending on your tastes, I just can't tell (not many BKP owners around).

This being said, I'd like to know what could make you think the BGF50 - and specially the BFG50 bridge  - should be restricted to cleans (http://illiweb.com/fa/i/smiles/icon_scratch.png). This pup just screams for massive crunch and has rock tones in spades.  Don't let this "vintage" sticker fools you - it's vintagey, indeed, only in the most raw&ballsy way you can imagine .

The BGF-50 is proof Leo got it right the first time.

I also say BG flat 50, or try the 10k piledriver, which i think you would like

I have a Piledriver in my cheapie Esquire build and it's a great pickup.

I have it loaded with 500k pots so as to not dull the tone down too much (Tims suggestion), so not sure how it'd work with a standard 250k volume/tone controls
