Been waiting a while for this. but finally, my first real ERG guitar. blackjack C-8. The fretboard is ebony. bridge is (apparently) a custom hipshot and quite a fine piece of hardware! The seymour duncan blackouts seem okay enough. i'll see this weekend. The neck is wide but actually pretty thin so it doesn't feel so bulky in my hands.
it holds every note pretty well, although i still feel .085 for the low F (i tune down a half step) is still a bit wobbly, might have to go up to .95 but i'll see how i get used to it and i'm still on daddarios. Elixirs have more tension to them so i'll see what happens once i pop a .85 elixir bass string on there!
Body is all mahogany, same for the neck. it's pretty lightweight so i feel it'll be a pretty resonant guitar. I compared it to my other schecter, a loomis7 with ash body and maple fretboard. the loomis has alot more snap and upper midrange to it, the C-8 feels a bit creamier, more even. has a little scooped response to it just listening acoustically. Tim told me a set of riff raffs would be a great match for that guitar, considering i have a black dog in my other guitar and that it's a bit brighter than the C-8 i'm tempted to beleive him.
The blackouts are quite compressed, for anyone wondering. they make every note sound even and some might like it, i don't. but they definitely don't have that distinct EMG over the top snap to 'em. so i'll be able to live with them i think.
build quality is great, but not stunning. the frets have been leveled either at the factory or from the distributor (our store is a schecter dealer so there's no middleman between the distributor and me, since we're the dealership) and haven't been properly recrowned and are a little flat. i can see file marks on the binding at the higher end of the fretboard (near the body) but overall it seems to have been setup pretty well.
the thing that actually surprised me was the schecter locking tuners. i was expecting worst, but i was surprised with the build quality and sturdiness. time will tell however if it's just a honeymoon thing!
as fernando says, pics or it didn't happen:

very very very coool

Tasty...
But I wouldn't buy one because I don't like the inlay :(

Well. after a few tests, i tried a .95 string for the low F. works like a charm, it's nice and tight and holds tune very well. had to drill a bigger hole into the tuner post but asides from that it's very swell. the .85 went sharp as soon as i put my finger on it.

0.95" string, your crazy! It's double wound right?
Was the 0.85" single or double wound? If single is there much tone difference?
Meshuggah use a 0.70" but then they do have a 30.5" scale
What size is the low B?
-
A 30.5" scale is a massive difference! The Schecter I think has only 26,5".
-
Yup. the scale is a bit short but it works, and yes, the .095 is double wound as was the .085 though there's isn't much of a tonal difference with the .068 as this one too is double wound. (i use elixirs normally but i did test runs with daddarios to see which gauge to use for the low F)
i string this guitar with
.095 .068 .052 .042 .032 .017 .013 .010. it keeps the tension at around 18-22 pounds per string and it's fairly tight but bendable when i tune down a half step, which is what i set this guitar up as.
the more i play with the blackouts, the less i like them :(

Aye I tried the 6 string version of this, and the Blackouts were okay for the first 10 mins and after that I got tired of trying to dial a nicer sound in. Wasn't the amp because I tried 2 and a Pod XT (which I know how to tweak to my liking, heh). Apart from that the guitar itself played extremely well and the satin finish really feels nice on the neck. The fretboard is an absolute joy to play on too.
Great purchase mate! Just needs a set of Painkillers now.

Riff Raffs actually :D Can't wait to get these

looks great! although i fear 8 strings might be a bit much for me. are the BKP pickups a direct replacement for the Duncans? they're certainly ugly things!

Ooo, unexpected choice! But a good 'un! I'll be looking forward to clips when you get them. :D

that's tim's choice. and when he suggested the Black dog to me for my 7 string, i was skeptical of it for the first month, but it's become such a staple part of my sound that i had to have the equivalent for this guitar. since the wood changes, he suggested to go brighter. i'm 100% sure it can be quite brootalz either way
