Yo, anyone got one yet? I'm quite tempted!
-
Careful Lew, iProducts upset it!
I'd love one. :D
-
I think they suck.
however... this guy doesn't

Doesn't suck? Or doesn't think iPads suck? :P
Can anybody explain (briefly) what they're actually for? I can't be bothered wading through Apple's marketing shite.
-
If they had a monitor output it might actually be quite a good little "media centre" type thing to plug into the telly for watching iPlayer, films etc. Don't think they do though which is a shame.
I think you can get a Macbook for £100 more which seems like better value for money.

Looking like a tosser and acting as a big "MUG ME" sign to the local hoodies
-
it's meant to be some enhanced internet browsing tool.
lots of clever things happen when you rub the screen in certain ways.
the apple genie pops out and guides you across the internet on an IPv6 magic carpet far far away from 127.0.0.1
for me it looks awkward. I saw one on the F1 coverage from the BBC being used as a glorified clipboard. Later, the presenter was using a blackberry to look at twitter comments, rather than the iPad on his lap. I didn't get that.

I totally agree. Actually looks like a little bit limited tool.
Save money for the iPup...
-
I have a macbook. The ipad is basically somewhere between the iphone and macbook. It just looks fun for mobile browsing. Hopefully Apple will introduce some cool stuff in the June conference. Rumor is they are introducing a 4Gs iphone and reducing the cost of the 3Gs.
-
If I wanted one I'd rather wait for atom based "slate" PC, then I'd be able to do something other than browsing.
-
I'm gonna wait for the Iboard or Imat.
Might even wait for the Irunway
-
Its just a fancy web browser as far as I can tell. If you don't need more from a computer and all you want to do is surf the web then why not.
-
Exactly. I think its well priced too. The official videos are bad, though - they keep describing it as magical.
-
It is merely a useful platform .
what will make it indispensable will be whatever apps get developed for it
There are already some interesting dedicated iPad apps coming through
-
So having a picture frame hanging round your neck is considered cool these days. I'm quite relieved that I don't have my finger on the pulse of the latest fashions.
-
think it's safe to say he's having a lark ;)
I'm a bit gutted we aren't living in a Blade Runner world yet. I mean... we done even have Back to the Future style hoverboards  So things like the ipad get my interest :D
-
I think this is a great app for the iPad

Essentially they're a computer for people who don't use computers. It allows them to do the basics (surfing, e-mail, simple word processing) and that's about it. Gonna buy one for my dad when they finally release them.
-
Erm, no. You've not looked through the apps, then? + it uses all of the iphone apps as the OS is just a modded iphone OS. Not sure where the confusion is coming from, it's simple. It's a touch screen computer that fits in between an iphone and macbook 8)
-
well i wouldn't want to sit typing at one.
browsing the net would be ok on it, maybe using it as an eBook or whatever.
using it as a tool... i dunno. Might be handy to have one with a VNC client on it for example, but you could probably do the same thing with the iphone and it would be more portable.
-
Thanks guys, but I'm none the wiser. Safe to say I won't be buying one. But then I still have a black & white mobile phone.

What about a colour telly?
-
Oh yes, I'm very nearly cutting-edge on the telly front Johnny.

I'm not so sure Philly. You do have a Blu-Ray player

Didn't Jean Luc Picard use one of these doohickies in Star Trek?

As I said before - the iPad is a platform for great practical useful programs
It will be the app developers that will make this item a must have for many users
Obviously Apple will make a bundle from % commission via the app store as it sells these great apps
Here is just one app that whilst a USA based one will be just one of many practical uses for this multi function tool
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLz72XErN8U (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLz72XErN8U)
This will just be the start for more and more touchscreen devices
In a year or two we wont be able to believe that we lived without them before
Just watchout for SKYNET!

:? Maybe I'm missing something here - this app seems to turn it into a tv remote? The keyboard to search I understand as an advantage, the 'invite a friend' thing seems like a good way to impress your grandparents I guess... Would this really improve the experience you get from your TV?
I wonder what skynet would invite us all to watch...
-
Yes but the point is that there will be thousands of apps - and you may end up with dozens of really useful ones on the same iPad - thus making it like a "swiss army knife" device - capable of loads of useful tasks.
It's a total chameleon device
-
IMO the IPAD is overpriced for what it does... not much really!!!
-
if you buy an ipad your going to need one of these!!!

tbh,
I really don't think at all that in 2 years a $600 digital tablet will be necessary to our way of life.

?? not much??... more than a million sold in the first month so some people have found a use for them.
I like that app that turns the iphone or ipad into a remote. It's meant for people who are using a server for media as part of their home theatre.. as opposed to cable tv cr@p. Then you can control your home theatre with one remote. And it's wifi so it doesn't require line of site to work if you have heaps of children's toys or movies piled around your setup.
-
Hello Bird! :D Long time dude, how you been?

That's what the cynics said about mobile phones :P

Doing well thanks. Still trying to get a handle on this whole guitar playing thing ;)

mobile phones are relatively cheap and are "necessary" to a teenagers life because of the social communication it provides. the ipad is kewl, atm its hip, but I don't see it being a staple.
-
Seems pretty useful .......What sort of valves does it use? .........EL84s or 6L6s ?

Which you can do with the Iphone as well! And use it as a mobile, which everyone seems to need nowadays anyway.

Dunno, I remeber someone on tele a loooong time ago predicting that we'd all have these little "tablets" that we'd carry around. I think that once the touchscreens can be rolled up and you can put the thing in your pocket (not too far in the future) then nearly everyone wil have one.
