Hello,
I would like to ask you, bkp freaks :), what pickups do you recommend me for guitar with specs:
- mahogany body (35mm) witch european walnut top (15mm)
- 5pc santos (bolivian) rosewood neck with ebony fillets, ebony fretboard
- 25" scale, schaller hannes bridge
- string gauge 10-52, tunning mainly dropped D (or standard E)
Mainly I play metal, hardrock, but I also would like to have nice cleans in midlle position with split coils on both pickups. I just use only one volume pot, no other tone controls, only volume and 3 way pickup switch.
Guitar is bright soundig. It has tight low ends and lot of hi mids and presence, currently there is SD SH4/SH2 set. I spoke with Tim from BKP and he recommended me Painkiller calibrated set, but I would like to hear another suggestions and opinions, thanks for answers :)

I might suggest Miracle Man set

Holy Diver bridge, Cold Sweat Neck.
Just my 2p :)

finally I chose PK bridge / VHII neck, I took them from the post office in the morning and will load them into the guitar on the next weekend. I'm really looking forward to hear how they'll sound in my guitar in comparison with the old SD SH4/SH2 set :)
also many thanks to Tim for the great customer support

and here is the guitar with the new pickups

Sorry, I didn't see this thread again, don't know why! That's a beautifull guitar!
How do you like the pickups?

thanks :)

totally satisfied :) it's similar to the duncans which I had before in the way of output, but slightly different, more tight in the bridge, maybe more bottom end, nad more punch in the mids. and more smooth in the neck. and also I can get nice clean tones with them
-
that bridge:tailpiece oozes quality, v beautiful

the guitar was used as main guitar for mike hasty of walls of jericho during their show here in kosice, slovakia, last night. it sounded awsome through the engl savage halfstack with the new bkp's :)

I went lower, now the tuning is Dropped C, using 11-15-22w-30-42-60 Ernie ball strings and...it sound's amazing now. this guitar loves low tunings and heavy gauge strings :) I love that feeling when I strum the low C and I feel the guitar vibrations in my stomach.
and a new year present for you, new pics :)

That is beautiful! Glad you're enjoying the BKPs :)

Hello all, sorry for bumping this topic, but it's regarding the same guitar and the pickup recommendation for it :)
I'm happy with the PK and VHII combo, but I would like to try something with the similar voicing like PK has, but with lower output. Could you please recommend me something? maybe a Black dog?
tuning dropped C
-
You should look at other ceramics then. Maybe the Cold sweat. This pickup is one of my personal favourites
-
When I mean lower output I mean something in the hot PAF area. CS has boosted highs and scooped mids, according to the tone chart on the BKP site, that's the last thing I need.
-
It does not change that the Cold sweat is amazing :P
Im not well versed in the non contemporary ranges. But i just ordered a Riff Raff. I will report back when its in my v :)

the cold sweat does retain some of the PK upper mid crunch, but a bit more bass and a lot less center and low mids
still quite high output, but not as much as a painkiller
the riff raff is amazing, close to the cold sweat voicing, but very open and not really aggressive
and definitely NOT a black dog
there's no hot paf voiced like a PK as far as I know
maybe the VHII, but I didn't try this one
I'd say rebel yell or holy diver if you want tons of mids, like the painkiller delivers
they are medium hot and both sound great in low tunings
-
The Riff Raff is not aggressive? The descriptions I read made it sound like it would be.
-
It depends on how you play them. I can make a singlecoil sound agressive. Like an agressive drunk person :P
