Got an acoustic gig at a house party, need big sing along anthems, some modern indie/rock and some classics from 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's.
I've got a few already but need songs with big chorus's and preferably few chords!

The Final Countdown. With an harmonica...

With my ass?
Nah, that's been done before.....

The suggestions are getting better. Already doing Waterfall, Sugar Spun Sister would be good too.
Philly Q, What kind of sick and twisted parties do you go to? :D
-
You'll always find me in the kitchen at parties.
No, TBH, I'm not really the partying type. I like a quiet life.
-
Well that's wherer the booze usually is, I like your style 8)
-
Well Queen for sure,-Somebody to Love and a million other songs you could do from them.
Ummm.......Creep by Radiohead, throw in some Foo Fighters-Everlong, My Hero, ect.........
U2-Most anything off the Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby, you could also massacre Hallelujah in a drunk singalong, these are just things off the top of my head after a 6 mile run, check BKP boards, now upper body PT.
PT!
Good for you!
Good for me!

Mustang Sally
Angels
Man, I feel like a woman
Deeply Dippy
Bleed
Brown Eyed Girl
And no, I don't go to a lot of parties, either.
Especially not parties involving singing.
But good luck :D
Roo

White Lion, Little Fighter
Riot, Maryanne
Hope you have some good guitar players for those, however!
-
My Sharona always goes down a treat, the (full length) solo always amazes people even though it's not that hard
Sex on Fire is a consistent winner as well, everyone loves that.
And as gwEm says, Oasis (particularly cigarettes and alcohol).
-
I usually do an acoustic version of Fall At your Feet ( Crowded House) plus American Pie ( Don McLean) Never Can Tell ( Chuck Berry- 2 chords!) Wild Horses ( Stones but rather ruined now by some recent version by someone or other from a tv "talent" show) Come Up and See Me ( c--kney Rebel) Stuck In The Middle With You ( Stealers Wheel) plus half a dozen Beatles tunes- works everytime.

Roo
Some genuinely nice choices there Roo ! :D When I was playing in a Blues Brothers / Commitments style covers band, Mustang Sally was always great for the 'Ask a member of audience to join the singers' choice - and 'Brown Eyed girl' very popular. ( I hardly dare mention it Roo, but those two also sounded great played on a Telecaster - through a Laney or Fender amp ; so forgive me, for I have sinned :) )
Can I add the cliche ridden , but show stopping obvious, that our Bassist used to do as a solo acoustic guitar number - and that is 'American Pie' ? Most folks ( almost ) knew the words - and the accelerating tempo-from sentimental to ballsy worked the audience well.
( * Edit : I see that 38th has already beaten me to that one ! :D * )
Eric Clapton's 'Wonderful Tonight' tended to go down well too, amongst (roughly ) the same age group.
Other than that , I would recommend you consider odds and ends from the Blues Brothers / Commitments back catalogue, as that stuff went down a storm at ( mixed aged ) Corporate and Wedding bookings . I may be way off the mark beyond Roo's own excellent initial ideas, because like our own Dear PhillyQ, I'm more of a (Dinner) party animal, on the rare occassions that I am seen outside of my lair.
Solo Guitar Jazz Standards anyone ?

No offence, Derek, but I hate "Mustang Sally" with an absolute passion! :x
It's the Number One song for sweaty, lardy pub-singers/comedians to say "hey, look at me, I've got soul". You can just imagine Freddie Starr or Paul Shane off of Hi-De-Hi dragging it out and mutilating it.
Sorry.

My band plays Mustang Sally and I must admit I am not a fan ( I have to sing the bloody thing) but we've done a funky version that works pretty well considering- but that is a fat lot of use if you are doing an acoustic set-you'd have to do an acoustic type arrangement( no flies on me).

ok, the HTH top three of house party acoustic gig songs...

No problem mate ; you have ( quite spookily ) described our most enthusiastic 'volunteers' to a tee !
It was worth it for the one time (at a well funded / staged Corporate function ) - that an absolutely gorgeous , statuesque, young Afro-Caribean lady in a slinky red silk dress - came forward ( As nearly did the drummer, bassist, Male singer and I at the time :P ) to show how it should be done ...
I agree that musically and lyrically, it is 'nowt special' - but as you predicted, we kept it in the act as a fun bit of public / shared theatre. Great for providing an 'open mike' with (ahem ) 'Lyrics' wholly sympathetic to, and attainable by, to those suffering from chronic Vodka amnesia.
As the theatrical sorts would say:
" I was giving my public what they wanted dear; prostituting myself for the good of the greater ART within me " .... :violin1:

On the ballad front you could also do Time To Let You Go by the criminally underrated Enuff Z'Nuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGibro2cExQ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGibro2cExQ)
