...as it's not one of his
I've been curious about Bogners for a while, and love the tones Hunter has got out of his Shiva and 100B. Pending a trade deal on my PRS McCarty Korina, I should be picking up a mint condition 101B with all the toys in the near future.
You only live once, and you gotta try these things out haven't you?

Nice stuff Dave! Hope you get lots of use out of it!
-
Cheers Ian - that's the plan :) My MJWs are awesome for my vintage-y needs, but a big part of my heart goes out to 80s hair rock and some of the more modern gainy tones. It may simplify my live rig a bit if I can get all my existing gain tones (and more) directly from the amp.
We'll see I guess!
-
Bloooooooooody lurveley, nice one :D
-
Hmmm, a lot of knobs there! :? Does Martin know about it yet?
(Glad you've got rid of the McKorina, that's one nagging temptation erased from the back of my mind)
-
It's not gone yet Philly!
Martin does know, yep. Spoke to him about it at our gig last night :) I think he's curious to hear how it sounds and to have a poke around its insides....
-
awesome, let me know if you don't like it, I may be in a position to take it off your hands
-

Don't you mean you asked him for permission? :P
-
-
I think you have enough MJW's now not to worry about buying at least 1 non-MJW. And it's good you're leaving some of Martin's resources for the rest of us :D
Looking forward to the review and some clips.
That's a lot of knobs though!
-
Yeah, there's plenty to play with when I get it!
-
Awesome head. Very impressive, nice catch.
You know the Shiva sounds nothing like the Ecstasy, right?
-
Yep! I'd love to try a Shiva one day, but I already have something similar (my MJW Orion). I'm after the Ecstasy for a more modern tone, and all the option buttons/footswitches etc :)
-
very nice amps, if the one i tried was anything to go by. there are a lot of nice amps at that kind of money, though
-
Very nice Dave! That's the only other amp I really wanted if I didn't have the MK50. I know it's quite odd as the MK50 is quite barebones and the XTC has loads of options.... total opposites if you like. But, I was really worried about service and back up over here due to the complicated nature of those beasts! You'll be ok as you have your own private tech!
-
I believe Bogner's are pretty reliable, but we'll see when I get it eh?!
-
Yes they are supposed to be reliable, but Dave... if it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck!
-

why, what are you going to do to it?
-
Gig it!
-
Nice amp Dave. With all those channels, I would have thought you would get a decent vintage tone if you spend some time dialing one in. Start with all the EQ at 12 0' Clock and don't use too much treble and presence. An attenuator may help achive that goal with some power valve cookage. Speaker damping if it has it, can take the tightness out of the sound when it's cranked up too. I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts on it after you have got more familiar with it. It looks the business! :D
-
Dave, sound wise those 101B's are supposed to be awesome!!!! From lush cleans through Plexi , hotrad and beyond.... a tweakers dream. That one amp could replace many.... you're going to haveloads of fun me thinks. When do you get it? What cab/ speaker combo you going to be using?
-
Cheers Johnny. There are loads of power reduction switches so an attenuator won't be required, plus I hate those things! I'll spend some time at home working out what everything does and getting a base setup.
didsj - The guy who owns it is away this weekend, so he's getting in touch over the next couple of days to arrange a meet.
I'll be running it through my chunky MJW 2x12 with Celestion Golds :D
-
That's going to sound great! One thing though Dave.... hope you're in good shape, they are both big and heavy
I really like them but I'm paranoid about overly complicated amps.... simple minds eh?
-
Well, I'm used to fairly simple amps too and that's what I've been using up to now.
Something about the XTC that makes me want to try it though, and you can't do that with a quick test in a shop. I wouldn't buy a new one at the price they are, but used they are a reasonable deal and I can always sell it on for little or no loss if I don't like it.
-
now this is a turn up..never tried one of these
-
You're right Dave, buying a used one you shouldn't lose anything at all.... maybe make a little? Can't wait to hear what you think considering the amps you already have! I nearly swapped my Cornford MK50II a while back for one but I realised there was something not quite right with my amp and had to get it sorted before I moved it on, I didn't like the idea of knowingly trading something that wasn't 100%.
-
Gig it!
haha, it just sounded like you were taking the claim that it was reliable as a challenge.
"reliable, eh?"
*lifts sledgehammer*
Regarding those vintage tones johnny was talking about, does yours have the plexi mode? the one i tried did, and that mode was great for vintage tones.
-
Yep, it's got Plexi mode :)
-
There's a vid somewhere on youtube of a Bogner being dropped from 5 foot on to a concrete floor without any problems. I don't think reliability is an issue with Bogners :p
-
Yep, it's got Plexi mode :)
nice :D
-
Just got confirmation of when I'll be getting it - a week on Tuesday :D
Trouble is, I'm an impatient kind of fellow
Tap tap tap tap...
-

You'll be fine, just try not to find/order any more amps while you're waiting :wink:
-
why not just play the orion in the mean time....oh you are....or the JTM...or the etc etc.
-
I know, it's not like I don't have a superb amp already. I'm very lucky.
-
Have you got any high out put humbuckers in any of your guitars Dave? You've got to have a go with a Miracle Man or any of those other fine P/Ups through that amp!
-
I've got hot DiMarzios in the one below. Hot pickups and a souped up Marshall - did someone say 80s???

I can't believe how ugly that guitar is in a photo, whereas, it's ok 'in the flesh'

Damning with faint praise?
-
The SG model he does is in Guitar Buyer this month. Looks alright to me (SG GAS being experienced at the moment)
-
Is it just me who likes that guitar (and Dave)
-
Martin likes it too!
I think Matt77 and Shobet "tolerated" it at the weekend
-

I quite like the look of it, but more for the "traditional" features than the "original" ones!
I do like the top wood, and the hint of Aria PE in the body shape. But not keen on the headstock or the squiggly bit at the bottom.

It's quite a nice guitar. I just can't get used to the shape of its arse. Francine was rather nice as well and the SG. But still the nicest for me is the red CS tele. ;)
-
Everybody seems to like the ones I'm keeping - I must have good taste
-
^ either that or they actually like the ones you're selling and are trying to con you into giving them away...
EDIT: i like the look of your pr guitar more than the sg they reviewed in this month's GB... the sg just looked like an sg with a cut-out in the bottom, yours actually looks like a different design.
-

Nah, I like it too... luckily I'm too deeply into one of my strat-phases to be suffering GAS for any guitars this bloke makes... or indeed for any guitars Dave has to sell (or not)

Aah! You say that but he does a strat a like too! And of all his designs I like that one the best

Yeah, I know...
Luckily, I'm a little bit of a snob over strats, and I'm definitely into "pure strat" at the moment.
BUT! the DCR models do look "different" enough to be rather appealing. If I was getting interested, I'd be torn between the one Twinfan's gone for an the DSRs.

no, i like Dave too

:) It's a great player, sounds good and is very well built. Just got a dodgy arse
The beat up old SG is great. It spoke to me.
It said "I rock"
-
So only hot DiMarzios, no hot BKPs. Damn!
Hmmm, we need a North and South BKP meet. An Obersturmführer of a meet. A Guitar and Amp extravaganza! A ticket job. With doormen. Shall we?
-
About time we had a meet of some sort I agree!
-
Sounds like a plan! I want to have a go on some guitars which aren't broken!!
Paddy
-
I'm always up for a meet!
-

Agreed, we're probably due for one!
-
Just been told the trade deal is off, after waiting a week and 16 hours before the handover.
Gutted and annoyed doesn't even come close
-
Bummer. :( He just changed his mind?
Still, maybe you'll now get a better price on the McCarty, it happens like that sometimes. Karma. :)
-
dang, did martin get to him?
seriously, though, that sucks. maybe the next one will be cheaper, or you'll get a better price on the prs as philly says. the odd time i missed out on something, something better came along later.
-
Fingers crossed that's the case!
-
yeah :)

I know!I just went thru the same experience :x :(...and,now,to make things worst,it looks like my Rebel needs new tubes :(
-
Shame.. :(...... Never mind, you'll just have to make do with all your existing cr@p gear PDT_005
-
That sucks but at least nothing is lost. Did the guy give you a reason other than a change of mind Dave?
-
"Personal circumstances".
But looking at the activity on the forum it was advertised on, it looks like he may have done a trade deal on another amp instead. I'd much rather be told that than fobbed off :(
