Title: 40th birthday present ideas
Post by: fbloke on May 23, 2010, 01:11:06 PM
I keep getting asked what I want for my 40th but haven't got a clue. I think I may have most of the material things I need but maybe I just lack imagination and that's where the forum can help.  Any ideas you have would be gratefully received - what do you buy the 40 year old blues/rock/jazz guitarist with a borderline beer addiction?

I will watch this thread with great interest...  I'm 40 next May, and I've already run the concept of "a really nice guitar" past the wife, and she didn't throw anything at me...

Mark.

They can't afford Kelly Brook.

Get a custom Feline Lion.  :D

stairlift?

(i'm kidding)

if you have everything you want, go on holiday somewhere nice? EDIT: I'm not sure if that'd work as a present, but people who are getting married are starting to have "funds" held by a travel agent to which people can give money, rather than a wedding present.

Get a Feline. It will be a great present. I've had mine out all weekend plugged into god knows what that Logic and Native Instruments make, its been great fun!

A new guitar is a great idea for a Landmark birthday- something special would fit the bill. I did it and haven't regretted it for a moment.

Okay, thanks for the replies. Let's evaluate the key suggestions so far:

1. Feline Guitars LP - looks stunning. I forgot to mention that I have a £ 300 price limit in terms of the family whip-round.
2. Kelly Brook.  Great idea, splendid balcony.  Wonder what she'd give me for £ 300?  There's a whole new thread there...
3. A nice watch. I recently did something really silly on ebay so I already have this and a scary creditcard bill.
4. A stairlift.  Don't laugh sonny, you've got all this to look forward to.... that said, many a drunken evening this would have come in handy, especially if it had a commode under the folding seat.
5. A holiday / vouchers towards - actually a great idea, I've always fancied a trip to Memphis and then down to the delta so this could be a winning suggestion.
5. A new (landmark) guitar.  Funnily enough, I've been thinking of putting a recent bit of good fortune money into an ES 355. This could give me the excuse.  So, which BKP's would we put in a 355?

Now then, check this bad boy out:

Not so much as the time of day, I'm afraid.

We did that..... but then had to use it to pay the bills  :(

I'd go for the holiday.  At the minute £270 gets you 3 nights at the Watergate Bay Hotel in Cornwall - including breakfast, two dinners at the hotel and dinner at Jamie Olivers 15 resturant (which is normally about £60 on its own).  Did this last summer and it was brilliant, sent the wife down with her sister this year so she can have a break from the kiddie.  Saved a fortune on food so it worked out a really good deal.

Combining points 5 and 6 would be good, go to the states and buy a 355 when you get there, the guitar would be a lot cheaper and you could even get it in Memphis.  Then put Stormy Mondays in it.

Point 4 is a great idea which has left me with a rather disturbing mental image of a guy shiteting whilst travelling up the stairs :?

I don't think you'd anything from Kelly Brook in budget but I thought you would like the picture anyway.  My missus is a bit perplexed that I have put the same picture on the laptop desktop, replacing the kids picture in the process.  But I'll tell her it is in aid of fbloke's birthday and I'm sure she'll understand.  I urge you to do the same, makes me smile everytime I minimise my windows :D

Tom, you're a genius. And a dirty old man :D

So, a trip to Memphis and a 355 purchase it is then. Allowing for my £ 300 budget I estimate that I need to come up with an extra £ 3417 to fund this experience.  Can we organise a forum whip-round to cover the costs?  Me love you all long time...

Whoops forgot about the budget

How about a Epi Dot Studio and a day trip to Blackpool then?

With regards to a whip round I think Cameron has beat you to it.....
