Just thought its about time we had another one. Lets hire out lots of studios all day.
 Ideas
Lets maybe have musical genre themed rooms full of lovely amps and guitars. So it will appeal to everyone.
Lets try and have a few jams with backing tracks through the PA or invite drummers and bass players instead of having 3 amps in one room all blasting each others anvils, hammers and stirrups into submission.
Lets bring portable A/C!
Then drink.
So dates. July or August is good for me. I'm blasting around Europe in a 500bhp M5 next month, for a while.
Anyone got any idea?
-
Here's a crazy thought.
How about we sack the guitar bit off, and just meet in a pub???

Yeah f*ck it sorted!

Okay - got one for ya
How about upstairs at the Scream Lounge - Croydon - 200 yards from my place
As a good many of you have already been to my workshops already you'll know where to find it
It's a showcase room attached to a 15 room rehearsal complex
It has a great bar attached to it and they do food as well
I was thinking due to it's proximity to me I could bring a stand or two full of guitars along as well as organising a few amps from the studio.

Yes a bar and loads of reheasal rooms. Where Jonathon is in Croyden is geared up quite well for guitar players. There is a pub up the road that has bands on there. One of my ex's knows the landlady.
Hands up who wants Croyden. That's a yes for me.

Sorry dude. I'm going to Le Mans 24 hour then off for a good adventure and beer up around France and Spain. Going off the well trodden path a fair bit to avoid Chavs on the piss.
I'll post some photos Fernando. It's a V10. It's not mine it's my pals. :D

The most powerfull that I've drove is a Honda Fit 1.5l
BTW, as I can't add anything about the meeting, what's the meaning of Obersturmführer?

Just as long as I get go. This other bloke we know who is going has a Lamborgini, but I don't know which model. I used to go on the Cannonball Bike Run with them.
I wouldn't take the prefix too seriously Fernando  I was going to use Uber Meet but Obersturmführer has more clout to it! It's the name of a military rank long since gone.
-
obviously depends on the date, but generally speaking i'm in with all these ideas :)
might bring a strat this time.
its good to have a different location this time, though it will mean i can bring less gear, but perhaps thats actually a good thing.
-
Croydon sounds good to me. I might not be about second half of August though.
-
Who's up for a Bogner V Koch sound off?
-
If you think I'm lugging the XTC to Croydon you can think again!
-
i'd quite like to put jonny's koch against my own rig for comparative purposes. unfortunately my equipment might be a bit too much for one person to handle.
-
I'm tempted to turn up to this one...
Might bring Egnater Renegade and Blackguard Flat 50 selfbuild!!!
Mark.
-
This sounds like a plan! I'm well up for this!!
Paddy
-
I'm in for sure. Last summer was a blast and I've been hankering for another get together.
-
Croydon is a wee bit far for me, but have a good jolly-up chaps.
-
if its between 23rd july and 20th august i might just be able to make it down
-
For me as always it'll depend upon gigs but otherwise, Croydon is not that far for me.
-
A plan is forming by the sound of it.
Any possible dates?
-
Croydon is good for me, only 15mins in the car :)
Amp-wise, I can bring either the 'crowd pleaser' (the super-Klipp), or the other Klipp (should be JTM45-y by then), or I could bring a 70s Champ and/or a Class5.... depends what the consensus is (thinking the 2 combos at the minute, though)
-
Haven't thought of a date yet , but spoke to the venue
I'm trying to arrange that if we can get enough people along they wont charge us for the room hire which should leave us all a bit better off for beer money etc
-
Croydon is good for me too - In fact now the London Overground is open at the South East London end you can get most of the distance by Tube
-
^ I can't imaging John traveling by Tube with his Koch in his hand...
-
If you think I'm lugging the XTC to Croydon you can think again!
Idea! Come down for the weekend Dave in the car and bring lots of gear! Drop the missus off at Bluewater or Sheppards Bush for an Uber Shop. Sorted.
As for dates and days. I'm free ok from 27/06 onwards. I rehearse with my 'Band' 'A Comedy Of Errors' in the week now as their not worthy of a weekend. So A Sunday could be good. Those of you in bands with gig schedules let us know your free dates so we can shortlist dates. It would be good to see you.
I still think it would be a good idea to hire more than one room. With a big turn out like we have had in the past the cost wouldn't be anything to worry about. So we could have a high gain room and a low gain/clean room. As before it was bit of a volume contest and none of you can beat the Koch so variation is the key for an enjoyable day for all.
See what I did there? The Gauntlet has been thrown! :D
-
Weekend of July 10th/11th works best for me at the moment, can't do before then and after that I'm on "look after Mrs Twinfan for a few weeks" duty as she's having an operation....
-
^ I can't imaging John traveling by Tube with his Koch in his hand...
That's a job for Afgahn!
-

You'd trust him to handle your Koch?? :o
-
If you think I'm handling your Koch you've got another thing coming...
-
One hopes there'd be no coming.... :?
-
I mention the Koch in a musical context, do some work, come back and it's business as usual!
Antag, your down Croyden-ish way intcha'? How can I put this.... Are you in? Jesus it can't be done with out Finbar Saunders laughing fnarr fnarr can it!
-
Sort of, it's around a 60 mile drive for me.
I'd like to come along, though I won't be able to drink :( I'll keep an eye on this thread & if the date is one I can make, then I'll do my best to be there...
-
From East Croydon station, it's only about a 15min walk (not as far/long as it sounds), but there are busses from there, too. Easy Peasy if you're not driving :)
-

I'm quite fond of Croydon too.

Nice one! I'm going to drive too, so I'm not fussed about a booze. That one we did in Old St last year, I filled my car up with gear. 5 guitars, amp and 4x12 plus two tubs of cables, pedals ect. You may as well do the same too! You will love it, just think of all those power valves cooking, your favorite tones dialled in on your Engl, one of your fine guitars in your hands and the room howling with harmonic feed back. No Mrs Antag protesting and no little Antag to wake up. That's what it's all about man. :D
Anyone else need some sales pitch?
-
I really wanted to hold this on Sunday July 11th?
I kind of want this date as my birthday is the day before (10th)b and gwEm's birthday is around there too
BUT - it's also World Cup Final day and the whole street will be a zoo like any town centre on that day and it just wont be the best date for it
So what about 18th July?
Who will be able to come along to that ?
I will just delay my birthday celebrations for a week as well!
-
heres my planned stuff for July and August:
3rd Jul cycle race (but I can cancel it)
18th - 21st Jul on holiday
21st - 22nd Aug gig
-
If it's the weekend then I'm in any time really, summer holidays start on the 22nd of July so I'm free after that any time.
I might be driving from Ipswich, so if anyone needs transport around the Essex area I'm sure I could help out.
-
18th is almost certainly good for me. I should advertise the fact again that for those who like traveling by Tube - the new London Overground service now runs from Canada Water (on the Jubilee Line) to Norwood Junction and that Norwood Junction is one stop from East Croydon (which is a short distance to Jon's venue and shop) - So traveling there has just got easier.
-
18th is definitely good for me. I'll be driving so anyone who is on the route from Basingstoke can grab a lift from me (as long as they have good car manners)
Is the event going ahead? Just got back from a week in Cornwall and haven't got round to reading the history of this thread yet!

The London Overground runs all the way to West Croydon which isnt any further really to walk - and it's pretty much a straight line from West Croydon to scream Lounge
-
the upstairs bar would prove to be perfect for a BKP meet - had fun today and it's worth repeating for the BKP meet

Is it going ahead? Anyone? Would be great to do it.

Ok - there seems to be enough consensus of opinion for the 18th July
I will speak to the guys at Scream Studios (Croydon - only 200 yards from my place) to get the upstairs room reserved for us
Could I start having a show of hands to get an idea of who will be there
As I mentioned before if we get good enough numbers and frequent the bar as well we may not have to pay for the hire of upstairs.
So hands up who wants to come along on the 18th
And what toys are you bringing along??

I'm in...

Sorry guys - can't make this one :(
Have a great time!

(Totally OFF topic)
Ha, ha .... Just seeing who's coming along and saw Philly Q has had "BD+SM" in his sig!
We won't be having any of that at the meet will we?

I had to look that up. :o
No, none of that. Would it be any better/worse if I changed it to SM+BD? :?

I'm in for 18th July. :D
As I'm a public transport sort of guy, I'll be able to manage two guitars in gig-bags.
Or possibly, I could do one guitar and a Vox Tonelab LE - is there a PA or something I could plug this into? (and would it be completely drowned by the stuff emanating from Johnny's Koch??)
I'm leaning towards two gits and a lead - and I'll rely on the groovy amplification other folks can manage.
(Or... there might be other options... I'll start PMing someone...)
-
I'll be there. Will bring along the martamp deluxe if anyone is interested. I probably won't bring the Baja unless anyone really wants to try it out - it's just a tele, nothing special.
-
I'll be there, will probably bring my new combo (Cornford Harlequin), as it sounds better than the Class5 :) Guitar-wise i'm not sure yet, it's either between the Charvel (which should hopefull have some single coils in by then), or a stock LP. I'll be there anyway :)
-
Me too probably - What should I bring?
Strat with custom made BK imitating a 61 set?
Les Paul Special - with BK P90s
Baja tele with BG 50s?
cr@ppy mex 60s series strat with Mother's Milks
-
Can't make this one unfortunately.
-
LP Special or the Strat with the BK 61 :)

Okay - the venue is booked between 2 and 7 on Sunday July 18th
We should have plenty of space
It would be nice to see as many folks as possible
Johnny Mac - maybe you could change the title of this thread to include the date /place
Or should I start a new thread?
-
I'm in! Bring along Excalibur (the tele) and possibly my SG with MQs. Still undecided on transport, what's the parking like Jon?
-
I might actually be able to make this one with any luck. I am gigging the night before and have a long journey home but hopefully I'll be there and bring a plank or two.
-
Just a note to all the other forum readers
Please note this isn't just a closed circle of friends getting together - in spite of many of us having made each other's acquaintance before.
It is open to any of the BKP forumites (even if you haven't posted)
It will be a fun afternoon and be a great chance to get to know other guys like yourselves who are mad about guitars and pickups, amps and stuff.
We are not pro level players and it isn't an organised jam session in any way
We usually end up just trying out each others guitars and having a laugh and all learning stuff (the fun way)
There aren't many rules (apart from being nice to each other and not nicking each others guitars, picks or beer)
The event will run from 2 till 7pm (longer in the bar later perhaps) on Sunday 18th July
It is upstairs at The Scream Lounge
Scream Studios
20A Southend
Croydon
Surrey
CRO 1DN
Nearest rail = South Croydon, East Croydon (probably busiest station) or West Croydon (London Overground as well)
Lots of buses running to outside the studio as well
Road users - South End is part of the A235 and is easily accessed from M25/M23/A23
See maps here
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&tab=wl&q=20%20southend%20croydon (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&tab=wl&q=20%20southend%20croydon)

To follow on from Felines' words-- it's not the kind of atmosphere where you feel watched or critiqued by other members-- there's usually a few amps going, and people plugging in each others guitars into them, and just having a laugh; it's not a formal event at all, and there's no pressure to play either..... it's just good fun! :) It's also good to put faces to names, don't think i've met a bad BKPer yet!
Mark: there is Pay and Display bays outside (not sure if P&D is on a Sunday, or if it's free), and there's a car park opposite which is also Pay and Display, but again i'm not sure what the deal is on Sundays... i'll try and find out as i'll be going past there sometime soon on the way to the bike shop :)
-
I hope you all have a marvellous time on the 18th! I will be on a plane to Ibiza :)

Just leave the V with the T-Tops in a black bin-bag round the back of Scream Studios - we'll make sure it's OK for you :D

I think that I might be able to come.
For those that haven't met me before, I'll be the tall handsome one in the Mr Bump t-shirt...
