I just got my new RGD2127 and looking to probably change the pickups to Bare Knuckle.
The question is, that I'm not sure which one fit my style / guitar.
Currently I'm playing direct through an Axe FX and mainly doing only recording stuff.
Sound wise I'm looking for a modern metal "Djent" sound. I very much like Bulbs sound from the new Periphery album...though I still find that the guitars from the Destroy, Erase, Improve album from Meshuggah, are one of my all time favourite metal guitar sounds.
I would really appreciate in getting some advise.

I just got a set of Alnico Nailbombs, and they fit the two tones you described to a "T", well maybe not the DEI sound but with some amp tweaking its totally do-able
-
Try the Painkiller bridge, with a Cold Sweat neck. The PK is incredibly tight, and has the upper midrange you want for maximum djent. The Cold Sweat is a great all-round modern voiced neck pickup, very hard to go wrong.

this
the cold sweat neck works great for those weird fusion leads on meshuggah stuff

Guys,
thanks so far for your advise...
Btw Nolly, I really like your sound & style. I've been listening to your demos (from various Forums :) )
Though I believe you are using Nailbombs in the bridge ? How do they compare to the Painkillers ?
-
I use the C-pig in the rgd320, and its perfect!
-
Just to give you some more info, I usually play in drop Ab and often have a tone problem in the low string.
I got some recommendations for the Cold Sweat in the bridge. How would that compare to the Painkiller ?
I was told the Periphery album was recorded with Cold Sweats, but not sure what guitars were used. I guess the wood etc will have also a huge impact on the sound...

Thanks dude!
I have a whole load of different BKPs in my guitars. The Nailbombs are more open and dynamic, but not as tight and aggressive as the Painkillers. The Cold Sweat is brighter than either, with an unparalleled clarity. It's not as naturally angry sounding, but can get very nasty if you want it to.
The 6-string songs on the Periphery album were recorded with a Blackmachine B2 with a Cold Sweat in the bridge. 7-string stuff was done on a Musicman JP7 with stock, pre D-sonic Dimarzios.

Good to know. Thanks for the info.

Well i Play in Std G# :) The warpig is still perfect for the job as long as you turn the gain down a notch

Thanks for all the feedback!
Still not an easy decision to make, but I'll prolly settle for the Painkiller / ColdSweat combo....:)

I'm just about to order PU and I have just one quick question regarding the conductor wiring. I guess the '2 braided' is correct ?
-
4 conductor. short leg. 53mm spacing
-
53mm for 7 string ??.
I only have a 3 way switch, so shouldn't braided 2 be enough ?
-
Haha lol My bad :P
Yes i have 4 conductor wiring in my mockingbirds, and they're 3 way too
-
get 4 conductor - you can wire it up the same as 2 conductor wire, but if you ever decide to sell or move pickups to another axe and coil split etc etc etc, it gives you maximum flexibility later on. Makes no difference to you now otherwise...
-
Yeah, basically if you wire the hot and ground wires like you would a 2 conductor, you can solder the loose two together (and shrink tube them) and bingo! You've got sound!

Thanks guys for all the help.
I have now raised the order and happily awaiting the new pups.... :D
