Title: Unbranded Strats
Post by: crispsandwich on December 05, 2005, 09:25:51 PM
A guitar shop nearby has a load of unbranded Strats. They're awesome quality and I'm going to pick one up after New Year. I commented today about how I plan to install BK's in them (some Apaches) and he said that his mate has one with BKPs in and the original pickups sound better! I can't imagine that this could be true, but nevertheless I think that the guitars are fabulous value. £150 they are. They appear to have a very solid body (Alder apparently) and the fingerboards have a lovely laquered finish. Can't wait to hear what they sound like with Apaches in.

I have a chinese brand Strat-copy that's modded to hell (now only the wood is stock, lol). It was already a nice instrument, though, and I have never seen a nicer hard ash body than that. The guitar's absolutely killer in its present form. I see lots of poor quality copies, though, you have to spend some time looking for 'gems'.

Chinese brands are slowly realizing that they have something western countries don't have anymore: lots of intact, old forests with lots of high quality wood that almost doesn't cost them anything.

I've seen the unbranded ones as well, got to say I was tempted by the Precision copies they had, and the Tele's looked fine too.

Now where's me piggy bank?

My Dean Psychobilly is Chinese. The maple is of great quality. It sounds better unplugged than the acoustic I have lying around and that's not a bad guitar either.

Steel City guitars I think the shop is called. Either that or Backstreet guitars. There is an online website for SCG but I don't think it's the same shop. Only a little shop, not been open more than a few months. It's on Copley road in Doncaster, the same road as Electromusic. There's also a guitar shop in York that sells them but I can't remember what they're called. Sorry!
