Title: Nevermore, Obsidian Conspiracy
Post by: MDV on June 03, 2010, 12:30:20 PM
Musically I believe the best thing they've done. Loomis is slaying dragons on this album. I know that doesnt make any sense, but you know what I mean. The playing from all members is tight as $%&#, compositions are awesome, band-at-the-top-of-its-game stuff. Think Enemies of reality crossed with godless.

Dane, however, needs to STFU ASAP. Pretentious whining git is on the verge of ruining every song.

/Review.

haven't heard the album (nevermore is one of those bands that I suspect I'd like, but never get round to checking out), but I'm glad you're ok. I was a bit worried for a wee while yesterday (as i think you're in cumbria?). :drink:

Ah, yes, thanks.

Yeah, that happened in my town (whitehaven, obivously, like it said in the news), and started on a taxi rank I often use. One of the guys that was killed and one seriously injured were both cabbies that I have often gotten emergency lifts into work with: nice guys :(

Dang. :( I figured you were close when they mentioned sellafield, didn't realise you were quite that close though.

and yeah, I mean it's not like it's good that anyone died, but I'm glad you're ok, kind of thing. :)

Cheers dude, much appreciated, I know what you meant :)

Oh, I should correct myself - he started with his family, then moved on to other taxi drivers on the rank that he thought were stealing his fares, then random members of the public.

Just found a post on the BBC news site featuring "Cumbria" and "Aftermath" in the title, obviously not the good kind of Aftermath

The more I listen this new Nevermore album the more I get into it, don't think it's possible to top godless endeavour

:)

EDIT: latest reports seem to be that he was being done for tax evasion or something? no idea how accurate that is, though.

Inaccurate.

Theres no way he did it because of tax. I dont drive so I know quite a few taxi drivers, and they ALL know how to pay as little tax as possible - the tax man would have to be in there car all day, all week to stop it or catch them.

It was initially over a will - he got, or thought he got screwed over on a will, for whatever reason believing that he got too little or his brother got too much or both. He killed his brother first, his solicitor, some more of his family, then he got started on people that he thought were stealing 'his' fairs at the rank (which they were, but they were also taking everyone elses, recognising people that they knew were going for a taxi and taking them from the back of the rank with a cheeky wave and bip of the horn on the way past the other drivers - mischievious and a little dishonest, but not something to shoot someone for, obviously).

Then apparently random people.

possibly. I think the bit i read said it wasn't to do with his wage, more like £60k which was in his bank account (for some reason).

Then again it was on AOL so it probably is inaccurate.

Not what I've heard, from people that knew him.

It was over a will. Hence massacring his family, not tax dudes. Then I suppose he figured he'd get people that pissed him off, then I suppose he just didnt stop till he killed himself.

AOL have never known anything about anything.

Just found out today that another chap I used to get a taxi with quite often, and got on really well with when I did - hell of a character, top bloke - was one of the ones shot, in the face no less, with a shotgun, and hes in intensive care in newcastle :(

I listened to a couple of the new tracks on Spotify and I wasn't too interested. Solo's were cool but everything else in the two tracks kinda left me feeling like I just listened to a few minutes of Warrel Dane moaning.

Haven't listened to the rest of the album yet so I'm hoping the rest is great. Big fan of This Godless Endeavour and Dead Heart In A Dead World.

I'm surprised you found them musically unremarkable: which songs did you hear?

The dane moaning: yep. Lots of that on the album.

Love the new album, and I for one also like Warrel's voice, so nyah!  :P

Oh, I like his voice well enough. He sounds great on godless, enemies, dead heart, and he doesnt sound bad on this. He just whines with incoherent drug-addled pretension a lot more than usual.

I keep trying to listen to nevermore, because they're the kind of band it seems I should like, but they just don't do it for me. I listened to the first track off this album and just found it really ordinary :(

Got it yesterday.  Nevermore is one of the many bands to pass me by in recent years

I really like it.  The vocals weren't that bad IMHO, loved the riffs, solos, arrangements, production.  Really cool album.
