New Neck Day.
Haven't bought anything from Warmoth for ages, but I foolishly had a quick look at the Showcase today. It turned out they've been using up some of their stock of exotic hardwood fingerboards.....
Now I have to decide what to do with these.....

Give them to me :D
Nice boards!
-
They do look kind of cute :D
Have you managed to shift the other ones yet?

Sold two necks and a body on eBay last week. Now I'm re-investing the proceeds. :|
-
Double neck strat?
-
Double neck strat?
One with strat pups, the other with tele.

That would actually be cool, but you all know I'm too weedy to lift a doubleneck guitar.
-
I think a half tele (top) half start (bottom) thin line may be in order
-
Maybe I could go for a different type of doubleneck (ridiculous syrup not included):

I cannot decide both look nice.

The top one looks best Philly. How long before they go on eBay?
 ;)

Given my usual turnover rate, probably about a year....
I need to see how these look with the Strat bodies I've already got, then I'll probably sell one Strat body and maybe another Strat neck (or two...). Hmmmm. :?
-
They both look really good, I'd love to put a guitar together from top quality parts one day.
-
That Zebrawood neck looks good. What's the other one? Ziracote? Lovely grain on it!

I'm keeping mum in the hope that Wez will visit - I think he'll guess them both correctly!
-
well its ziracote like grain, but redder than most which can be more greeny grey. so possibly braz rw if they would send that to you
the other is macasser ebony is it not

... is that Doug Marks, or Nigel Tuffnel???
Lovely necks, but the way... I think that I need a strat...

Your first thought was right - ziricote and macassar ebony! :D
Pretty unusual, 90% of the Showcase stuff tends to be maple, rosewood and a bit of ebony. Maybe a bit more choice if you don't mind the Standard Thin neck shape.
I saw they had a couple of ziricote ones a few days ago, but when I had a look today I was bowled over by the macassar - I knew it wouldn't last long so I made a snap decision!

More ridiculous than that, it's Michael Angelo Batio. :)
-
hows this for some mac ebony :) i'm loving it - apart from being quite sensitive to the dust, worth it though

and i did this new body recently for a neck i made with ziracote fretboard... gotta stop using this stuff as the reaction is getting worse.... still got one more 1-piece neck blank to use up though

The different colours in the grain are amazing! :D
Do you only get a reaction from the dust when working with the wood, or just from touching it?
(Getting a bit worried now, my hands tend to react badly to things like cement, polyfilla, even house dust... :? )
-
just when its making dust, even with good dust masks on - its fine once finished
i can get great mac ebony in nice thicknesses so its a real shame
-
Thanks, that's OK I guess. Oh well, I'll see what happens when it arrives. I'm not going to do much to it, except perhaps your edge-rolling technique.
-
What bodys did you have in mind for them Philly?
-
Well, I'm wondering if the macassar ebony neck might suit the purple sunburst body I bought ages ago. I also have an unfinished, one-piece hardtail body - I may put the ziricote neck with that and finish them both in Tru-Oil.
It all depends how they look "in the flesh" really.
-
oh wow, those guitars are great, wez
-
Ahh Mac Ebony, of course!
And Wez, there's a bit missing from that double necked guitar, thought I should warn you... :D

Just realised it is (or will be) a 4/12. Mike Rutherford?

he has a bass on the bottom.... but rickenbacker have made them both ways
i just had the tuners on to test the distance and angle between the necks, which will not be like it is in the pic
-
The grain in the fingerboards on the twin neck looks great Wez. I guess the blue line is just for cutting?
-
indeed. with my current equipment (no vacuum set-up) its easier to laminate smaller bits of wood than full bodies - so i cut them all out oversize first.
-
Lovely necks Phill!
And awesome guitars, Wez!
-
Thank you, Fernando! :D
