I recently got a Ltd h-307 and love it. But the EMG HZs sound too terrible to go on any longer like this. To me they sound like a slobbery mess especially on the low B string. They lack the clarity and crunch I want to achieve in lower notes.
I mostly play high gain metal but would like to be able to pull off some crunch tones as well. I want to be able to play full chords and be able to hear each note instead of a clobbered mess. I want something with high output that will pick up squealing pinch harmonics and give me that satisfying metal chug. Clarity on the lower notes is absolutely critical. As soon as I heard the clip from Nolly's Coldsweat equipped 8 string(http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=21428.0) I was amazed at how defined and clear all of the notes were. Cold this pickup be what I'm looking for?
Aside from high gain, I would like to be able to flick into the neck pickup and achieve some warm n poppy clean tones. I'd also want to be able to pull off a nice lead tone with the neck pickup.
Where would be the best place in the United States to go about purchasing a set? And do the sets come with wiring, pots, etc? Sorry for all the questions. I just heard about this company and seeing how everyone only has said good things about the pickups, i thought i couldn't go wrong.

The Cold Sweat would work great for you: Clarity on full chords, works on crunch, more than enough putput for metal and squeals and so on... A painkiller bridge would give you even more low b clarity and a mighty chugging sound!
Not that the cold sweat isn't clear on the low b but the Painkiller exceeds in this area (my own experience) however it isn't as good as the Cold sweat for crunch and open chord clarity. It comes down to what you value more...
Either way the Cold Sweat neck is the neck pickup for you!

i think that you may need to get a conversion pickup ring for your guitar if the 7 string HZ's are the same as normal emg actives

This is very helpful. I've been looking around the forums and it just keeps making me want to change my mind! The decision is tough....but it looks like a Cold Sweat pair would succeed at getting the job done. Nolly's 8 string was super clear on some really low notes so I'm sure i will get a great tone on my 7 string as I don't normally tune lower than A.
Is the dual Cold Sweat combo pretty common? are there any clips of one in the neck on a clean setting that I could preview? And please excuse me for asking possibly an obvious question, but are they active pickups?

The HZ's are the same size as active EMG's. Where would I go to get this conversion ring you speak of?
