Title: Tim Pickup Rewind Options
Post by: Bird on December 07, 2005, 07:12:54 PM
I've got to get some humbuckers for my yamaha sg first, but I was wondering what I could have done with my old strat pickups. Since the stock pups were replaced with the Irish Tour set the old ones are just sitting on the shelf. They're from a Hendrix Tribute strat, what are my options :?:

I don't think it's worth rewinding those pickups from a financial POV - bang them on ebay.

For Yamaha SG's: Crawlers or Abraxis V.

I have Crawlers in mine and I'm very happy with them. The Abraxis wasn't out yet when I got the Crawlers or I would have gone with those probably.

For the sg I'm planning on crawlers, but the Rebel Yell pickups are sounding good. I'm just wondering what I can do with the old strat pickups.

Excellent choise sir! Crawlers are what those stock Spinex pickups want to be when they grow up (and more). RY's would probably be great too but a little more on the mellow side, me thinks.

Of course like many on this forum I eventually want them all, but the next set will the crawlers.  :D

The cool thing about Crawlers is that you discover something new with them every week. They're no one-trick-pony.

Rewinds are a great idea if the original coils are good and the magnets too.I rewind a coil for £32 so a set comes in at £96.............worth it if you're gonna keep them but questionable if you're gonna bang 'em up on ebay.

Definitely wouldn't be selling them. So what would the results of a rewind be as far as sound, are there a lot of options?
