Yep, what I thought wasn't going to happen actually has, and I'm now down to 9 guitars 8)
My Epiphone SG is up for sale, so the final settlement figure will be a nice round 8 - from a high of (I think) 27, this is a serious change from where I was about 18 months ago. Quality over quantity, and I'm really happy with the range that I've got:
Squier JV Strat - my first electric, and the only thing I own with a trem!
Fender Custom Shop Esquire - Ian Price's old guitar
Fender Custom Shop Tele - the Red Sparkle monster
Fano JM6 - my P90 guitar, and one that I'm bonding with more and more
Gibson '65 SG - the old guy that I'm now using in YC/DC
Paul Richardson SCR - the modern oddball, and my main guitar for my non-DC bands
Gibson Pearly Gates Les Paul - I sacrificed my Ducati for this, and it was definitely the right choice
PRS Modern Eagle - my dream guitar, and something I never thought I'd buy
I'm so contented with the above, that I've stopped looking at guitar shop websites :o
Could GAS be in remission?
-
Tut tut tut, you realise now the focus of your GAS will move towards, pedals, amps and guitar related gadgets.
-
You never learn Dave
Everytime you post like this... just a few weeks/months later...
... and now we're all waiting to see what it will be :D
Having said that, that does sound like a sexy little set of geetars.
-
Congratulations. I hope you don't get a taste for acoustics
-
Good stuff Dave - that's way more manageable than double figures and has the added bonus that you'll be able to play them all fairly regularly.
I'm really glad that you haven't sold the Esquire, I would buy it back in a heartbeat if you were selling it (and I had the cash).
What I like about your collection is that it covers a lots of tones. There's pretty much something for everything (everything important anyway!)
-
Congratulations. I hope you don't get a taste for acoustics
I think Dave has sold a few acoustics very recently!
-
True, but you never know with Dave. It could be banjos next.
-
Yep, I sold my acoustics as part of the cull. I've said I'm GAS free before and then fallen off the wagon () mainly because I still had a slight itch for something I couldn't put my finger on and so I kept looking. This is the first time I have actually stopped looking, so something must be different this time.
Pedalwise I've sold several recently too, and except for a couple of recent Malekko pedals my board has been static for quite a while. I'm very happy with my Martamps and Bogner XTC too (now I've scratched that itch), so there's no amp related purchases to consider either.
Maybe it's time to start saving for that new car I keep promising myself...

Yep, everything is on more of a rotation so they get played more often. They were the ones that got played most anyway though, hence the sales!
I'm afraid the Esquire isn't likely to be going anywhere any time soon, but in the unlikely event that I do decide I no longer need it I'll give you a shout.
It's quite a nice mix of guitars I think, different specs/pickups/scale lengths etc, so something for all the tones I enjoy. I used the '65 SG for its first two gigs this weekend, where it was fantastic, and the Fano will be going out for a gig on Friday with the SG as a backup. I'm trying to get the maximum use out of strings!
-
Love your collection Dave, though I think you need a semi to finish off?
-
I think a family photo is in order!

+1
That would be the icing on the cake - a real Kodak moment!
-
Yeah, I'll have to get a pic won't I, now that I can actually get them all in one shot! I'll see what I can do...
I think you need a semi to finish off?
I can't believe Afghan didn't take this anywhere
-
down from 27!? I was over whelmed with 8
I'm down to 2 and will stick with them until I get more money
-
PR Guitars as In Paul Richardson, blimey I know him from the Mayfair Rock club days in Newcastle.
Really glad to hear he's doing so well.
And congrats on trimming your collection to such a super range :D

Cheers! And yes, Paul builds a cracking gee-tar!

How did I miss this thread yesterday??!! :o
It is an admirable position to be in. Wish I could follow suit, and I was picking up a few guitars last night thinking "wonder if I should sell this?", but I don't think I could ever get down to 8. And I'm certainly not GAS-free at the moment.
Could GAS be in remission?
I notice you had the good sense to say "in remission", not "cured"!
Tut tut tut, you realise now the focus of your GAS will move towards, pedals, amps and guitar related gadgets.
He's already got loads of those!! :P

Yep, with just 8 they should all fit nicely on the 3-piece suite!
-
Leave it with me, I'll try and get a pic...
-
-
Cannot beleive you culled so many. The question now is will you be under ten guitars when the VAT goes up in January?
-
Seeing as how it's such a nice night, I managed to grab a pic outside.
I'm very thankful that I'm in a position to be able to create such a nice collection.......

Oooh lovely. The red tele is not sparkling as much as I thought it would though.
-
It's the angle I think!
-
That's a fine looking collection... OK, fess-up, how long did it take to organise the group? (Hmmm... Francine here, and then the Fano there... no, the PRS there to balance Francine... etc...)
Strangely enough, the PRS comes off looking like the least stand-out item in that shot (not what I'd have expected actually).
EDIT: Not sure it would have brought out the sparkle, but I would have tried the SG where the strat is, red-sparkle where the SG is, the strat where the red-sparkle it... this is cos in paintings (classical etc) you stick bright red in the middle distance to add "depth", it draws you through the picture... If you stick bright red in the foreground, your eye is drawn straight to it and your brain struggles to see much else... (might be what's kicking the PRS into "oh yeah, and that one")
Quick, get back out there, the light's still good!
EDIT2: I forgot, after Philly said "sofa", I was half expecting an "Yngwie style" chuck-em-all-on-the-sofa, snap-em-where-they-fall, sort of picture...
-
Andy - you think WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much.
I grabbed them and put them in a random position that mixed the blues and reds up a bit
I'm no arty photographer, as you can see!
-
Andy - you think WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much.
My "original" post was just the first two lines - but shobet got in with his and you'd replied "it might be the angle" and the reply thing said "you might want to review..." and I suddenly realised what the problem was, "bright red in the foreground..."
So, I thought I'd pass it on...
-
if you need something new to buy to get into home recording ;)
-
Screw that - not my bag, baby!
-
Cheers for posting the pic Dave - they look great. The more I see it the more I'm drawn to that Fano. Good to see the Esquire looking great too!
-
I reckon you'd like the Fano mate, next time we meet up you'l have to try it again :)
-
Sounds like a good idea mate - not sure when I'll be able to get up to your place though due to work/family stuff! Definitely up for it though!
-

See, they're not that blingy after all! It's quite understated really.
I'm waiting for you to get the PRS bug Andy.
Anyway, back to the picture - 4 set-necks, 4 bolt-ons (2 rosewood, 2 maple). It's a nice symmetrical collection. :D
-
Very nice!

Ha ha! Never noticed that!

I'm not sure it will. I've tried to raise some personal interest in them several times over the years. Even a couple of times recently since joining this forum (there are some cuties about, after all). But I just don't seem to get, er, "excited" enough to start the dreaming/longing process...
-
if you need something new to buy to get into home recording ;)
Dave, you would love it mate! It's so much easier these days. If more of us had the facilities, we could have our own tunes where we all play different parts and get the long awaited bkp album going
Nice collection, really nice. So if you keep the gas in remission are you going to get another bike?
-
No new bike, not in the immediate future. The plan is to get one in around 18months before my no-claims expires, and it'll be a joint bike for me and the missus. We fancy a Ducati Monster.
Recording just isn't my thing, I enjoy the playing but I have no desire to write or record anything. I just like doing pub gigs and playing for my own amusement :)
I think I'll have a breather from buying anything if I can, and spend some time going out with the missus :D
-
or...
buy an 8 string ;)
in sea foam green!!!

I was like you once, then I got some recording gear...nothing much has come out of it except learning how to use it so far, but its so good, learning it and hearing back the results. You know that road trip I went on? Well I had a ride in the Lamborghini with that warpig clip I knocked up on the CD player. It was a great feeling, hearing that, in that car and seeing the 5 grand sound system sub woofer bouncing around to the bass, that I played. 8)
Good luck with the Monster, they still look cool as f*ck today.
Your Missus sounds like an angel Dave, so some time out with her would be a great idea. It's all about getting the balance right isn't it.
-
Certainly is mate, certainly is. She's having an op in a few weeks, so I've got some time off with her followed by a short trip away in August for our wedding anniversary.
You gotta get your priorities right sometimes ;)
-
You gotta get your priorities right sometimes ;)
Absolutely. But not all the time :D
Hope the op goes well and that you have a nice break.
-
You gotta get your priorities right sometimes ;)
Very true - hope everything goes well for Mrs T - a little TLC usually speeds recovery along :)
-
Cheers guys :)
Just sorting out our Xmas hols at the moment too - a trip to Lapland to the Icehotel :D
-
What the hell do you do for a living?! I'm in the wrong job!!
Paddy
-
They look really nice, I like the orange strat and blue mustang thing! The weird one at the back looks surprisingly good as well :o
Grass could do with a trim though :P
-
The "Mustang Thing" is the Fano JM6. The wierd one is the Paul Richardson SCR, which is an absolute cracker - I love gigging it.
Grass could do with a trim you're right, but the cats like it that way ;)
What the hell do you do for a living?! I'm in the wrong job!!
I'm a project manager, the missus is a head of early years primary school teacher, we live in a cheap house, have no kids, and don't smoke/drink much/do drugs. We also don't go on holiday very often!
-
i didn't notice your wife was having an operation, i hope it goes well, dave.
Now, when were you going to admit that you're back into double figures? :D  EDIT: ok, so maybe you're only up to 9...
-

Do you know something we don't? :?
-
He does.
Forgive me, for I have GAS'd. Still in single figures, but up to 9.
I'll start a new thread...
-
haha, yeah, he made the mistake of posting it on musicradar
he's trying to get off on a technicality, though
