Title: mahogany tele HS pickup advice
Post by: mitch on June 25, 2010, 07:53:07 AM
hi all!

subject is tele-style guitar with bridge humbucker + neck single

mahogany body
bolt-on maple neck and rosewood fingerboard
25.5" scale

equipment:
h&k puretone or custom made crunch head marshall plexi style + ts + other fx

sound requirements - huge rock sound, not so hi-gain, but punchy and chuggy in bridge + rather clear and twangy in neck position (due to single-channel amplifier, clean sound achieved using volume on neck pickup)

sound for example - band alexisonfire

my choice is:
covered alnico warpig in bridge and covered piledriver in neck

any suggestions?
thank you in advance!

The Warpig will sound FAT if that's what you want?

Warpig sounds like a pretty extreme choice, if you ask me...

A good, crunchy low/medium output bridge HB sounds to me like Mule/VHII/Black Dog kinda territory...

Don't fear the "vintage" or "vintage hot" lables; Ace Of Spades sounds AWESOME on my Mules!!!

As for the neck, you could do worse than the Apache.

Mark.

If you want to tighten up the bass you could go ceramic warpig
