Hi, not really a regular poster, but love browsing your collective thoughts. Anyway, back in the 80's I remember one of the glam bands i.e, Danger Danger, Vengeance or some other poodle guitarist having a sunburst type strat / soloist body with a reverse banana / hockeystick headstock (maple neck)......does this ring any bells with anyone?
The reason behind my enquiry is I'm hoping to commission a well known luthier () to build one for me and I don't want to come across like a total eejit!
If anyone does remember this guitar and is able to find a pic of it, then there is a prize - I have two copies of "The Dynamite Jet Saloon", by the Dogs D'amour (on CD) so the "lucky" winner is welcome to one :violin2:
Thanks in advance
-
If it had a hockey stick headstock, it was either a Kramer or an ESP.
-
Thanks for the response!

Lynch's version of said guitar:

Can't really help with the specific band \ guitar (needle in a haystack!) but here is my own 80's throwback axe...crafted by Bob Johnson!:

Looks a nice axe mate :guitar4:

Reverse hockey stick is perhaps THE iconic 80s shred look. I've had a few guitars like that.
My last one:

My current one is all natural with a single hum/OFR. Will snap a pic of it tonight.

Nice!

I have a couple of Baretta types in my stash of nearly built stuff currently
the headstocks on these are based on the slab cut headstocks the same shape as on the Kramer Ripley as seen here with EVH neck may have been made by ESP

I have a proper ESP banana headstock here as reference for that shape too

Cool, you got a band website or something?
-
@Feline - Was hoping you would respond 8), I've been looking at your website for quite a while, and had seen the two hockeysticks you had made. Really like the look of your work, would love to see some of it in person.
-
yo nwobhm
we just sort of play a combination of all the parts of 80s metal we love, priest and maiden are probably our biggest influences so getting to tour with dianno was pretty cool, hes getting a bit past it now but was great to see him rocking his hit hard night after night.
we dont have a proper website but you can check us out on facebook or myspace here
http://www.facebook.com/razorwyre (http://www.facebook.com/razorwyre)
http://www.myspace.com/razorwyreband (http://www.myspace.com/razorwyreband)
also for a bit more modern thrash check out these guys,
http://www.myspace.com/killrazer (http://www.myspace.com/killrazer)
theyre a band from australia who was doing the job of the rest of maiden for the tour, the guitarist shreds so hard. the whole band nailed the early maiden stuff awesome, and a cool bunch of dudes
-
Thanks for all the responses people, been really helpful in narrowing down my search.....just in case anyone has last minute inspiration, I'll leave it another 48 hours before picking the (un)lucky winner 8)
Oh and murraymurray, cheers for the links, really liked your stuff 8)
-
Ok, time to call an end to this, thanks everyone for the helpful responses - I think the CD (if he wants it) has to go to
............Denim and Leather......applause, dancing girls etc. 8)
need your address mate or someway to get this to you
Thanks again
-
WOOHOO!
I will PM you my address, but ... I live in NYC, boyo. If you don't feel like shipping out to the Colonies, no worries; you can send the CD to the Runner Up. :)

Bloody great CD that, I love some of Joe Dog's simple effective guitar work. How come it never rains is a fave of mine
-
I first saw the Dogs in 1984 at the Camden Dingwalls - supporting Wrathchild.
Impressed by Joe's playing - was a bit sceptical about Tyla - or whether he would still be alive a year later
Wrathchild were a bit mad - but great fun ( way more pyro than they needed for such a venue and confetti cannons filled with shredded porn mags - clearly left an impression on an impressionable 19 year old)
-
Uh-oh. Is this going to become one of those threads?!
Mirror, mirror on the wall ... who has the most old school cred of them all? PDT_008

Yeah!
F**k you looooozzers....
I was in the video for Wrathchild's "Nukklear Rokket" - directed by Bruce Dickinson...
-
the Bruce Dickinson ...? :)
-
Yeah... "THE" Bruce Dickinson.
(Before he met a sloppy guitarist and left Maiden only to return a few years later with said sloppy guitarist now in Maiden but playing alongside two wonderful guitarists called Smith & Murray) PDT_031 PDT_008 PDT_002

Not me. Just old. No cred.
-
Hey I only mentioned I liked the Dogs CD ;)
Wrathchild were utter shiteee. All sense of humour and no talent, wow just like chart music today minus the humour
Don't get me started on being a partner in crime with Last of the Teenage Idols throwing bags of horse shitee on Little Angles at Middlesbrough as an end of tour prank which caused them to recieve a 5 grand clean up bill. OOPS....
Oh sorry it's not one of those threads :)

You're 100% correct there! (I only went to meet Bruce Dickinson)

This guitar is so nice! Hope you don't mind, I'm saving this pic to use the headstock design someday (but in completely different colors, woods, etc)
