OK, I'll admit it - I'm getting slightly nervous now. Mrs Twinfan is heading into hospital later today for an operation tomorrow morning. It's a general anaesthetic job, and she'll be under for around 45 mins. Neither of us has had an operation before, or even an overnight hospital stay.
I think it may be hard to concentrate at work tomorrow. Fingers crossed all goes well!
-
Hope it goes well Dave. I've been where you are and the wait for the operation was worse than the actual event - in hindsight I probably spent too long thinking about what could go wrong rather than reassuring myself that operations under general anaesthetic are done routinely nowadays with very, very, very few problems.
All the best.
-
Hope all goes well for the Mrs, Dave.
I've had two operations under General Anaesthetic, and while I can't say either was a particularly good experience (the second especially because they also applied a nerve-block, but failed to actually block the correct nerves! When I woke, I had a screaming agony in my wrist but couldn't move the rest of my arm or hand!), each was in its own right, just fine.
While there is a risk with all operations, it's worth remembering that, like plane flights, the absolute vast majority of a very large number goes on exactly as planned with no problems.
Less time worrying, more time looking for appropriate Get Well Soon cards, flowers, grapes (and chocolate!). :)

Cheers guys, I'm sure it'll go fine but the doubts always creep in a bit don't they?
Chocolate is no good for the wife, Roo, as it gives her migraines! A bottle of white wine should do the trick though ;)
-
I've had quite a few operations for various things, and loads of overnight stays in hospitals, and aside from the irritating "You can't eat after 7pm the night before" stuff I've never had any negative experiences. And when I was a wee guy, I got presents when I got out too! It was ace!
She'll be fine, I'm sure.
-
Dave,
After being put under a fair few times over the past 22 years, I'm sure Mrs Dave will be fine! All the best!!
Paddy
-
Last time I had an op they put a pain killer up my arse when I was under. I was also away with the faeries for quite a while when I came to. Terrible... ;)
Best wishes to the wifelet Dave.
-
I've never had an Op' either Dave but that overnight stay I had last year from that accident I had left me very impressed with hospitals. She'll be fine mate don't worry. It's natural to feel a few pangs of doubt. :D
-
I've had general anaesthetic a few times, I don't think there's much risk to a young, healthy person. It'll literally be over before she knows it. :)
It's actually quite good fun waking up - you feel like you're coming round quite quickly, but when you think about it afterwards you realise you can't really remember it properly at all. Like a waking dream.

Chocolate and wine, then :) You get the chocolate, and if you don't eat it, I will :)
-
good luck from me too. i'm sure it'll be fine :)
-
I'm sure all will go well - last time I had a general anaesthetic I started talking a load of rubbish (even more than usual) when I was coming around and was shut up by one of the nurses as it was annoying the other patients :(
-
Cheers for the good wishes folks, much appreciated :)
Just leaving work now to drop her at the ward.....
-
Dave, she'll be fine and feeling better in no time.
-
All the very best to you both from me too Dave : I know she is in very safe hands, but of course considering the very special / irreplaceable relationship you have between you, any risk is unacceptable to contemplate - even that of stubbing her toe on the hospital bed.
I await the news at it appears. :)
-
Missed this earlier - I popped into the thread at lunch time, but never got a chance to read it...
We'll be thinking of you and the missus :D

My experience is saying "all right, it's ok" and then opening the eyes more than 3 hours late, they used a bucked of anaesthesic as I'm the size of a Rhino  The reason why I was saying alright, fat people is harder to hit the nerve to give the local anesthesic... But no big deal to me...
Everything is going to be alright, the better thing you can do is trust on the doctor and try to keep calm (or look)... The worst thing ever is everybody nervous when you're going to be cut, so keep it cool for your Mrs :D
Everything is gonna be alright, but I'm thinking on you and your Mrs! :)
-
Don't worry Dave, I am sure she will be fine. I have had 2 general anesthetics and that was the more enjoyable part for me. Like Philly says, it is an unusual experience but I viewed it with a sense of humour. In my case I had some morphine and that was very pleasant and I know I shouldn't say that but it was ( and believe me I have had a nightmare experience with one of my sons with drugs so I am the last to make light of it).Best wishes to Mrs Twinfan Dave.
-
Hey Dave, best wishes to your better half and hoping that all goes well. Don't get too stressed either, that's not going to calm Mrs. TF down at all. All the best mate.
-
Cheers folks :D
She's all installed in her side room with Freeview :o And that's the NHS too, not private!
Op at 9:30am tomorrow, should know how everything is around lunchtime :)
-
my very best wishes!!!
David
-
my brother has had a few ops, never had one myself.. and would definitely be worried if miss gwem would be going in for something. i'm sure it won't be necessary - but my good luck wishes too!
-
Well, almost 09:30 : all the best Mrs T.F ! :D
-
Cheers Derek! I'm off to a meeting shortly, which may or may not help to pass the time, then I'll be ringing the ward to see how she is...
-
Well, I've just spoken to ward sister and all appears to be well :D
Phew.
Roll on visiting later!
-
:D :D
(Don't tell her yet about the two guitars and an amp that you bought while she was under )
-
Excellent ! :D
Tonight's 'visiting' will no doubt be a somewhat profound experience . It's nice to be reminded sometimes, what really matters in this life. :)
-
Good news mate... pass on our regards! :)
-
Of course!

You're so right there. Last Monday I got called to my GF's work to pick her up as she was unwell. By the time I got there she was being taken to the Ambulance due to anaphylactic shock. Thankfully all is well now and her flat, my car and her work are WELL stocked with Epi-Pens, was a scary experience though.
Dave. Hope all is well with the Missus!!

-
Cheers Paddy - it seems that way :)
It's certainly re-aligned my priorities recently, and I'm looking forward to some time off work with her while she recooperates.
-
I presume you mean recuperates? Otherwise I think it's time to call Social Services on you!
Hope Mrs Twinfan recovers quickly!
Roo
-
Doh! Ropey spelling from me yet again :(
Cheers Roo!
-
Great to hear everything is alright Dave :D

No mate, it IS "re co-operates", in the context of ensuring that the post operative amnesia does not make her forget that she co-operates with Dave's epic expenditure.
" You may have forgotten love, but before you went into Hospital, you had told me to put a bid in for Peter Green's old Les Paul, because you so liked Francine when you saw her "...
-
 Nice one!
Actually, of all my guitars, Mrs Twinfan likes the PRS Modern Eagle best...

... Of which you have no doubt just told her , that you had three more than you actually owned when she went in . ( you may still be in time for the late night opening at the local guitar stores, or to book overnight delivery from Europe ! ). :)

glad to hear it all went well :)

Actually, I've just remembered that the PRS isn't her favourite - that's #2
The red sparkle Tele is her #1....

I am pleased to hear it went well-best wishes to you both.
-
Cheers again guys!
I've just got back from the hospital where Mrs Twinfan is off her nuts on morphine and talking complete garbage
Op went very well according to the consultant (who popped in while I was there) and she should be home for the weekend.
Top stuff :D
-
Great! :D
-

Obviously some esoteric Medical term you picked up from the consultant.
Great to hear that the news continues to be good ; all the best for the weekend !
( Don't forget to rehearse the cats for the homecoming song ).
* Edit*
Just a thought : If the opiate induced delerium persists until Friday, get half a litre of surgical alcohol down Shobet, and employ him as translator. That's what friends are for...
:)
-
What a FRIGHTENING combination! He's only local as well......
-
I've seen Shobet drunk several times.
Translator he ain't!
-
Glad to hear it all went well Dave. Morphine is great, she must enjoy it while it lasts.

That's the bit I liked after. Can she nick me some?
-
I'll ask her mate!

Sorry I missed this thread. Glad to here that everything went ok.

How about a 'News Update' then Dave ? :D
-
Of course - sorry Derek!
The good lady Mrs Twinfan came home from hospital on Friday afternoon, and is doing very well. I took her back today to have her stitches out, and all is looking good so far :)
She has a "back to work" outpatients follow up in around 6 weeks time, just as the school summer holidays end. She's a primary school teacher, so hopefully all will have gone to plan and she'll be fit to go back to work at the start of term.
And in other news, I'm off work next week as a full time carer
-
Nice one ! :)
Good to hear that the stitches came out this early - obviously healing well ! All your good Lady has to face now, is her 'in house' nurse for a week ...
All the very best ( as always ) to you both. :)
-
Cheers Derek - hope you're keeping well too :D
-
Good to hear she's doing well :D
-
All the best for speedy recovery to your missus dave and hope that you will be able to put away your nurse's outfit soon (not letting out any secrets of course) he he

good news :)
-
I wish the good Mrs T a swift recovery.
-
Cheers folks! Thanks for the good wishes!
-
Glad to hear all's well. :D
I predict you'll have been driven mad by Jeremy Kyle and Judge Judy before the week's out....
-
Managed to avoid it today, thankfully !
