Hey,
I was watching Malmsteen perform with the Tokyo Philharmonic and was really digging the tone-

does anyone know of a pedal that could get that sort of tone? I know that might be asking a bit much but I'm finally starting to convert to analog and have begun building my first pedalboard. I have my overdrive, fuzz, whammy and delay set out by I'm still looking for my lead pedal.
Thanks!

He uses a DOD 250 overdrive into cranked 50w Marshalls I believe...

^ This.
And LOTS OF VOLUME!
... buttloads of technique won't hurt, either. :)

well, you certainly need a strat and a marshall. but in fact i'm not sure about the other things..
uli jon roth, paul gilbert, eric johnson, and others i'm sure, can get this singing violin like tone from strats - and i'd love to know how too.. i don't think its just the DOD250 which is the secret, since Roth and Johnson don't use one - maybe it really is a flatout master volume.
vibrato is really important for sure.

well i might just eat my words.. maybe there other ways to get that tone, but the dod really seems to work well with the strat neck.. been watching youtube clips

i should also say that i read a while ago that using the bridge pickup with the tone rolled down can get you closer to this sort of tone. its not the whole way, but give it a go, i've been using this trick for a bit and its free of course ;)

in that video he uses neck pickup a lot, anyway...
