Title: mxr dist+
Post by: gwEm on July 30, 2010, 07:14:59 PM
well, i was quite inspired by the recent short thread on getting a malmsteen strat tone. anyway, i was initially dismissive of the dod250 use, and changed my mind after looking at some tone clips.

knowing the mxr dist+ is almost the same circuit as a 250, i actually went out and tried a vintage dist+ and a modern one. i decided that i'd splash out on the new one. the vintage one did sound a bit different, but i decided i almost preferred the modern one in some ways.

anyway - i'm in new york at the moment.. obviously i've demoed the pedals in the shop, but its not the same until you try it out in your own rig is it?

i have high hopes it will give me some roth-a-like violin strat tones. my initial tests in the shops were encouraging. hopefully i can always throw some mods at it if its not quite right.

i guess you got the reissue cheaply available from thomann a few years back.

that was a great deal, got one too, but found it too bassy. wish i'd kept it and done some tweaks on it now.

Yeah, that's right, I'd forgotten where I bought it.  I got a flanger at the same time.

I think I actually suffer from a very similar syndrome.

Who are these "many" lady friends by the way?

:D I just seem to get on better with women than men. Not sure why, it's always been that way.

gwEm - apologies for the mini hijack!

Looking forward to finding out how you got on with the dist+ in your own set up - hope it gives you what you are looking for!

Tried the MXR at Phil's yesterday and I rather like with a Strat. It might be a bit grainy to use with humbuckers. I also think its nicely made, and it has good components inside.

PhillyQ: let me know if you'd like to trade that DOD

this is by no means a perfect pedal. its a little fuzzy and the eq curve is a bit strange.. but anyway i had an absolute hoot this morning with my strats and this pedal! :D still like it alot.
