Hey guys. I have this physics project to do for my A-level coursework, where we have to find out about and do a presentation on a material. I have chosen mahogany as a tonewood.
I know there's a few guitar builders on this forum, and i thought that maybe you could tell me what makes Mahogany such a good tonewood. I'll need some physical specs and what makes it resonateso well, where another material would not.
Thanks for any help!
I knew one day i'd have an excuse to be on this forum in a lesson!
I also know that the name Mahogany applies to a variety of different woods, and any information about the differences between these, and how and why they are different would be greatly appreciated.

There's alot of info on tonewoods on the warmoth and ed roman sites.

thanks for those man, but i'm kind of looking for something a bit more scientific and in-depth. If there's any books that could recommended then that'd be great too!

Just use Google. You'll find plenty of sites like this one:

http://www.jemsite.com/jem/wood.htm is a good site for info on woods.
I'm not sure if it's indepth enough for what you want, but it's an idea :)
