Looking for a new watch, so bloody many of them, how do you decide? I seem to be mostly looking at fossil and diesel ones, going shopping tomorrow to find them and see how they look in the flesh.
Had a quick look today and I can't see what your paying for with some of the daft expensive ones, especially ones with tacky matt finishes on the strap

there is only one choice:
accurate
cheap
illuminator back-lite (killer at raves)
trendy retro-chic
alarm
water resistant 50m
stop watch

Get a nice vintage one... About 12 years back I was planning to get a Tag, but went vintage instead. If I'd got the Tag I probably would have got bored of/accidentally destroyed it by now!

I believe the coolest watches around at the moment are these. I kid you not! Can't believe how many I've seen on the wrists of the cool looking youngsters in Manchester.....

another vote for Casio :)

As gwEm says, if you wanna be cool, get a Casio!
if you want something a bit less technical and organic, I can fully recommend these guys as I have two of their models:

Edit: replace the '@' with an 'a' - the swear filter has got at my link!

The Casio has retro cool (at the moment, maybe not next week!), but they are a bit flimsy if you are used to a heavier diver / sports style watch. If you want a digital though, they are where its at right now :-)
Analog wise ... personally I'd go for an automatic, Seiko make some very good ones (see the Seiko 5 or Kinetic models). Accurate and much cheaper than their swiss counterparts, plus they make some plainer looking models which I like: as after all I'm not a diver, fighter pilot, racing driver or marine ... so have no need to have a watch made for such :) With the less flashy models you also know you're paying for the movement, and not a 50p movement is a £200 casing!

Most important thing for me, sad that it is: Does the second hand sweep or tick? It has to sweep ...

I like old Seikos, by the way :-)

Here's mine. I didn't know it was cool when I bought it  . It's cheap and it tells the time.

i used to not be able to go out without a watch. now i feel quite happy and hippie like without one. i look at shadows for time. oh and my sales receipt from debit transactions too!
-
ILLUMINATORS! Damn man, they still going? I used to have the one that gWem posted when I was 12. That was 16 years ago!
Oh god I just thought about that...now I feel old! :?

I just have a Pulsar from argos. Does the job and looks alright!
If I had the money I'd have this, ridiculously priced though but so cool in a geeky way

Love this one as well-

Digital watches to me are like telecasters to Roo.
At the moment it's between the first 3

Found some real life pics and the plastic strap is putting me off.

Saw this today and I quite like it but then I found this the next one in a different colour.

Originally dismissed this one but seeing it in real life and how big the face is compared to the second one it appeals to me the most now.

This is my favourite but I think £300 is a bit much
Anyone seen anything in a similar style to the above with a 50mm+ face?
My brain seems to think bigger face = better

Gorgeous!!! I like watch simple and cool like this!

I prefer my simple yet solid looking watches. Here's my Nixon:
Needs a new battery but it's a really hardy piece of kit. Flew off my longboard once at a silly speed, and the only things that survives the wreckage were my Nixon watch and my Spy sunglasses (which have a now very tried-and-tested anti-scratch lens...it works!) All my clothes got shredded, both my palms were skinned and I had deep grazing and pieces of flesh removed from my arms and knees. Watch and sunnies are fine and the longboard rolled off into a soft hedgerow, so the important things were all fine, hah!

Now that confused me until I googled longboard. I was always under the impression a longboard was one of the earlier types of surfboard. I was trying to work out how a surfboard got from the sea into a hedgerow.
Anyhow back on topic, I'm quite into the cuff style watches at the moment.

I've had an eye out for a nice pocketw@tch. If anyone knows a modern maker who does decent stuff that isn't silly money, I'd appreciate linkage.
I'd also like a monocle, but that's another story.

I came accross Zepplin watches when I was in my last search. Look good for the money.
I've gpot my eye on a nice trench watch at the minute. Think the old IWC and Longiness ones are gorgeous.
-
You'll laugh but I miss my old casio g schock, waterproof like nothing else (several watches broke at my wrist due to rain or washing hands...), yellow plastic wrist band and people always impressed as you were looking down to check time.. :D

The G-Shock was it when they first came out ... and you really had to try to break one. Easier to break your wrist ....
I had an Iron Man, always wanted a G-Shock at the time!

Don't usually like cuff watches, but that is a nice piece!

Although this is a rather expensive example......... but would go nice with my fountain pen :D

When the hell did Casios become cool?
Still happy with my trusty Lorus. Classy but not blingy and accurate.
