I just got the news that I got the position on the board of a £185 million property management company!!

Well as some of you know...
I gave up a great job in the city to care for my mother full time. Though I've never regretted the decision, I've been watching the gap grow on my CV for the last few years and trying to ignore the fatal effects on my potential future employability. :(
It is a very isolating situation being a carer.
So, I've been doing voluntary work for civil liberties groups & parliamentary lobbying to keep my confidence up and mind less numb.
Then through a chance meeting I became aware of this position and thought "f**k, I can do this and get my life back on track"
It's been a very long application process and part of the reason I've been so quiet....
Yesterday I was finally interviewed by the existing board & by all accounts knocked their socks off!
My CV is going to be 1000x better than before I quit my last job and I'm going to be practising management at the highest strategic level for at least 3 years after my approval at the next company AGM.
I can't wait. :P

Preparation, Preparation & more Preparation!!!
Learn everything that's in the public domain about the company/sector/role.
Listen with good eye contact + All answer's must focus on personal responsibility + ADMIT PAST MISTAKES & how you coped!
Then offer sexual services for the Xmas party! :P

*Says the man thats just done the exact opposite* I just got the green light on my application for voluntary redundancy. Unless I panic and pull out, I'm soon to be 'self employed'. So, better brush up the CV if plans fall apart in 6 months! Dave, got a job for a bored physicist?

As for jobs... You would be amazed at the ethics contract I have to sign!
Luckily in matters of business I am highly ethical....
I always agree a price and pay the young lady in cash BEFORE I take my pants off. :P

Nice one Dave :D I'm having no luck on the job front - still haven't heard back from two places and turned up to Sky today only to be told that the guy I was meeting is on holiday and forgot to cancel our appointment! 4-5 hours of travelling and 25 quid down the sh1tter (I'll also let you make up your own innuendo from that last bit)!

I hope you made a personal connection with his PA/Secretary and got HER assurance that he will reschedule your interview.
She/they are the gatekeepers and if you flatter/make them indebted to you, you will get to the boss quicker!
PLUS...
If Sky is like all the other BIG companies I've dealt with you will be able to get your expenses back from HR if you were invited for interview!
DO IT! (or at least try)

Problem is it wasn't really an "official" interview - I applied for something but got a reply saying its already been filled but that I should go in for an "informal chat" as they may have some suitable positions coming up in the future. He's ringing me some time next week to do it over the phone instead.

Still make friends with / create an psychological obligation from his PA!
And really try to arrange to meet him personally... no matter if it costs another £25.
When he gets back from holiday he will have an inbox full of things more important than you, so you have to take more active steps...
The PA will remind him and if you communicate effectively they can be your "inside man"
At very least you can confirm a time for you to contact him
(this is preferable because you can prepare yourself and have your mind right to direct/respond the conversation)
The PA manages his diary or directs his calls so...

I've used this technique before and its a good one. Plus its alot more fun joking around with her than the boring boss.
