Hey guys i created a short loop today so i could have a go at writing a melody and solo over the top. 3 hours later i came up with next to nothing. Just wondering if you lot, the majortiy being more experienced than me, would give me any tips for writing solo's.
And while we are here iv attached an mp3 of the backing track if any of you want to have a go, and maybe post your replies and hsow mehow its really done.
FYI the track was done with my Ibanez and Miracle Man pair (the only BKP's i have unfortunately) through a Boss ME-50. Theres no bass on it as i like to get the leads out of the way first.
If this is in the wrong section feel free to tell me off.
Enjoy!

What key is this in?
-
ah well i dont really know coz my musical theory is utter pants. It starts with a B (minor i think), to A, then the chord change is C, G and D. Simples.
-
play the first bit Bm & A as a minor blues scale at the 7th fret.play the next bit(if you want to stay in a box at the7th fret)
as mode as follows b,c,d(on bottom e string) e,fsharp,g(a string), a,b,,c(d string) d,e ,fsharp......f sharp,g,a
b,c,d(top e).i think it's phrygian mode, i forget the names but remember the positions.
this is in fact a g major scale but starting from the b.all the notes of the c g d section are contained in this scale,
but hitting the notes of the chord as the chord is played reinforces your progression.this is just a starting point, and how i would go about it.
hope it's not confusing!

Why don't you make it a solo challenge, post just the backing and have fellow BKPers do their version? It might inspire you to try out some new stuff.

thanks gordji ill try that.
hunter, the mp3 is just the backing guitars. Feel free to have a bash at it! The sample itself is pretty long but its just the same thing looped so whoever downloads it, feel free to chop it up a bit.

Oh I thought that dark fuzz guitar was the solo :P
Maybe it's easier if you take this one away and change it to a few chords (less than the notes of the current one) while playing the lead part - that might make it easier to solo on it.

adam, i've done a rough job of putting a few ideas down on your backing track.normally i would always put the bass down before guitars.i have no recording facility(or knowledge) so i put your mp3 onto a disc, played it back and re-recorded it together with my guitar onto my field recorder(botch).
still, it gives an idea and i've used the scales i mentioned earlier in the thread.your guitars sound nice and the loop
is already quite busy , so maybe it sounds a bit overdone with more guitar on top, but it's mean't to be fun .i don't
know your level but hope it helps you.

Nice one!!!
way better than what i was coming up with, i might have to study bits of what i heard there ;) as you say, its all fun. If anyone else has recorded themselves i'd love to hear the results!

the other thing i wanted to mention is it's quite long, so a solo would be perhaps one section of B/A and one section
or C,G,D. so i would keep improvising over the piece until clear ideas started coming through and then learn it as a piece, or at least a semi improvised section.
