There's a discussion about Korean guitars at the top of the second page in this section. That's about all I can help with I'm afraid.

I've got an Epi SG (SG400 ?) I bought new in 97. It's a Korean made guitar, and 13 years later it still plays well, sounds good and buildwise is still solid, no problems at all. Paintwork is fine too.
My understanding of Korean Epis is that they are pretty good, better than the Chinese ones (there is plenty of conjecture on the web about them if you want to google it).

I've got a Korean 2005 or 2006 Epiphone Les Paul Custom. It's a great guitar plays and feels just as good as my 1991 Gibson Les Paul Studio.
I actually use the Epi as my primary guitar for tuning to BEADF#B in my post metal band. I'm a little hesitant about grinding down the nut on the Gibson for the large gauge strings I use.
