Title: Been messing around with copper again
Post by: WezV on September 12, 2010, 12:06:29 AM
i distressed the last two metal leaf finishes quite a lot.... but decided this time to practice doing a neater version on a cheaper guitar

i picked up a second hand Yamaha RGX-A2 for a decent price and decided it would work well for this

day one:

day two, fills done and some colour variation that should even out as the copper changes colour:

I dont like the overly stiff rotary control and its LED's so had a rethink on the electrics... its getting an N-tune under the volume control and a normal toggle switch for pickup selection.  i am also toying with the idea of a couple of mini toggle coil splits/taps (depending on final pickups)

Interesting.

I think I prefer the distressed versions at the moment, but that might change with the finished article :D

Yum Yum Yum! Wasn't a fan of the original but that is WELL tasty. How long does the finish of one of those hold up?!

it will get lacquered over - so it should last just fine

Tasty,  I would leave it without lacquer and let it go green.

Excellent work as always mate.

i distressed the last one and hurried the verdigris along a bit - not willing to wait for it to happen naturally

I decided i should attempt a proper gilded finish on this one before putting the metal leaf away for a bit to try something else..

one thing i have been considering for a long time if a zemaitis metal top style build, but with engraved and patinated copper/bronze for the front plate

You haven't seen how I dress, wouldn't make a difference.... or how often I play a guitar at the minute for that matter
