I hope this is the right forum, I wasn't sure if it should go here, or in "tech".
So, my savage se came!
anyway, my laney cab won't come to next week, so as you know, i'm trying to run it through my marshall avt speaker. It's 8ohm.
First question:
does the marshall need to be plugged in and switched on to use the speaker, or will the speaker take phantom power from the head? (it says not to use the marshall amp without a load attached, obviously enough)
second question: the plug seems to be coming from the speaker, and the socket at the back appears to be plugging INTO the amp bit. I assume I just use the cable coming from the speaker and plug that into the engl head?
I'd appreciate an answer only if you're really sure, i don't want to do a homer simpson and not ruin one perfectly good amp, but ruin TWO perfectly good amps!
Thanks for your help
Dave
EDIT: just to clarify, it's a marshall avt100 combo i have, not an avt cab.

I think you can plug in the Marshall speaker into the Engl head. Never turn on an amp when there's no speaker attached.

^thanks, ratrod- that's why i was so worried.
anyway, it's all academic now- it turns out my engl has a german plug- i should have checked that before i started this thread.
I'm going to have to order an adaptor. Anyone know of any reputable german (or northern european) electrical retailers?
i'm looking at you here, ratrod, since you're dutch...

German plug? - if you mean it's a two-prong plug then Maplins sell adaptors for a couple of quid.

can you not just get a new IEC mains lead? or does the power cable come straight out of the back of the amp?
-
^ i've got my old marshall valvestate lead, but it's 10A, while the german one is 16A-it might work, but i'm scared to chance it.
it's probably handier to get one of those maplins or argos adaptors (probably argos, there's an argos where i live, the nearest maplin is 45 miles away)
the major problem with those adaptors is that there's a plastic rim around t edge, and th shape of the engl plug will get in the way- i don't think it'll fit. However, i'm almost sure that rim is just for decoration, so i'll just break said rim off with pliers or something.
thanks for the help, guys!
