Never had this before - difficulty in wiring pickups! Trying to wire up a different brand (S...... D.....) into a Squier for a friend. Took the scratch plate off - wired up the selector wires (black), the vol pot wires (green and unshielded) the back ground and the jack.
All joints seem to look ok - I can lift up the guitar from each wire, so they are not obviously not soldered into place.
When I plug in I get no sound - if I turn the volume know I get hum between 2-9 and nothing at 1 and 10. Is this the key? I suspect its the vol pot wires that aren't connected.
I must say the piddly thin wires used by Mr SD are absolute cr@p once you have used BKPs.....

Not sure this will be much help :S
But I know SD use different wire colours to BKP "I think" but I'm sure you have probably figured that out when you fitted them.
Any who I had that hum problem with a BC rich I was fixing, not exactly the same I know. But It turned out it was a ground wire wired wrong :)
Not sure what to suggest, but check the toggle switch is good and the volume. Something might have even blown out, defo where a multimeter would come in handy :)

There's no standard colour code for pickup north/south, maybe that'll help though

I changed the volume pot in the rich, I went by this picture. This site is pretty useful.

Basically the input is from the pickup (the ground wire from the pickup should be soldered on to the top of the volume pot), the ground and out put, should be the two wires that go to the out put jack.
But since you prob have a pick up toggle you need to find the positive and negative lead from that and connect it to the volume pot in the same way as you would solder a pick up on.
Never really fiddled with tone pot's, but they have a capacitor I know that much. And that they connect to the ground and positive wire. Pretty sure they are wired in series with the guitars electronics just before the the volume pot.

Just remembered the problem I had with the rich. The ground problem was because the legs of the volume pot were so close together the person who worked on it before had accidentally stripped the wires to far back and the ground was connecting to the positive closing the circuit to the output jack and gave me a buzzing noise which I'm assuming was the resistance between the wires. Just check for any wires that are stripped to far back or soldered together.

I believe that SD single coils and BKP single coils use the same colors, white is hot and black is ground. For their humbuckers, I'm not so sure.
This diagram has always served me well for strats, wiring any kind of pickups.
