Good morning!
Is it possible to remove a chrome cover of a covered pickup?
I'd like to take the cover off of an old Kent Armstrong p-up and put it on the neck pickup in my SG because it will look good next to my Nailbomb!
Cheers guys

The covers can be removed. You'll need a powerful soldering iron to de-solder the joints between the cover and the baseplate. But If you want to put it on another pickup it will have to be soldered in the same way and wax potted to prevent microphony.

Cheers Mr Pig :D

How to WAX POT it?
should i Drown the PICKUP itself in the wax? or JUST the pickup cover?!
-
the whole pickup, when the cover is soldered on. When you first put it in, the wax will solidify around the pickup becasue it is cooler than the wax, wait untill the wax has melted again, then it is ready to take out.

thanks steve

Hey Steve, would it be possible if you could put a matte-black cover and cap head bolts onto an old pickup of mine if i send it to you? That way it would match my Nailbomb :)

Bump for the new question! :D

i wouldn't mind getting some of that wax potting action myself :D anyone know what wax you can use and where it's available?

We use Parrafin wax, as the bases of our mixture. It is available at most hardwear stores. Be carful because it will set fire if it gets too hot!
