Title: Nice Surprise
Post by: tomjackson on October 22, 2010, 10:05:14 AM

So the inlaws told me to reserve last night for a Birthday Surprise.  Not really thought about what it might be, perhaps a meal out at a new place or a gig somewhere.

Imagine my surprise when I open my card and Jeff Beck tickets fall out for that very night!

Thanks FF!  It's not until next week though, I have a full 4 days of 33 to enjoy before I oficially hit 'mid thirties'!

Not a Jeff Beck fan Dave?

The gig was on Thursday evening.  I did wonder what all the fuss was about with Jeff Beck but the gig was great.  I was definitely converted, one of the best players I've seen.  Great tone, touch and phrasing....

thats a pretty cool gift!

And the nice thing is that even if Jeff didn't perform well, Tom still gets to keep the wife and her perceptive / cool parents  on the team !

A win / win / win situation .  :drink:

Great and generous pressie. I love JB. He's been at it for as long as anybody and is still pushing the boundaries. Who was on bass?
I particularly like this remix David Torn did for him on the Jeff album. Supercool imo.

A very tasteful contribution from Jeff, was his session work on the Roger Waters Album 'Amused To Death'.

Happy Birthday  Tom - great present.

As I've bored everyone on this forum many times before, I've been a JB fan since I was about 15 - the first name guitarist I ever saw - made the hairs on my neck stand up  - still does with some of his playing, although I suppose my favourite period was his Rod Stewart, Ron Wood, Nicky Hopkins (surely the best ever rock pianist R.I.P.)  days.

I always get disappointed when he changes musical direction but then find myself getting into it just as he moves on to something else.
