Title: Poplar?
Post by: Mozzy009 on October 26, 2010, 09:51:47 PM
I have a Vintage VRS100, which is a PRS knock-off but with a poplar body and I'd like to know how a Nailbomb (Neck and Bridge) sound in the is guitar? Poplar has a tone similar to alder, thanks

I think NB's will do fine.

The Nailbombs sound great in poplar, as does the Emerald and Holydiver. Personally I like the Holydiver most in poplar because the HD has a darkness to it that really balances it out well. The NB is very thick and punchy as well but still has a lot of crunch and upper-mids. The HD's low mid growl sounds HUGE in alder/poplar guitars.

Some poplar guitars are tricky beasts to find the right pickup for
Beware if your guitar sounds dark and not too rich in top end frequencies with the Nailbomb (in my experience)

I concur that the Holy Diver may be a better all round winner for this guitar as it just has "plenty of everything" and will still cut through nicely
