Aftermath news aside (joyous that it is ), I am interested in these new BG sets. I had this reply from Tim once over a question over my new (at the time) BG 50 neck:
The Blackguard neck coil is quite a special coil and is based on a '52 neck coil belonging to a friend of mine. Historically Tele necks have always been wound with 43 AWG plain enamel but for a very brief period, @ 6 months in '52 ,they wound the Tele necks with 42 AWG plain enamel. Being a heavier wire gauge you're limited to how much you can wind onto the coil especially as they're covered coils but the tone is so much cleaner and defined. So long as you get the neck coil set correctly for height you shouldn't experience any volume imbalance at all, just a very unique Tele neck tone with superb clarity and dynamics!
Just incase, I've attached the pdf for the 4 way Tele neck mod so you can check your wiring.
I love my BG 50 neck ... so I'm very interested in the '52 set, plus does this mean the BG '50 set now has a new neck pickup? I'm gonna need a new Tele! Also the '68 set now seems to be the one with the 42/43 AWG wire, but different magnets ... so many choices now for the Tele. Any clips of the new sets would be appreciated :-) The BG '50s are truly wonderful pickups, and any extension to the range is great news :)
And congrats to all at BKP over the Fender Custom Shop run!

So do I !-)

From your above post and what I read from this newsletter, it seems that the old BGF50 neck is now the '52's neck and that the BGF50 grew a new neck.

So I'm imagining if the new BGF50 neck has the same sort of character as the bridge, it is going to be a very tempting pickup. The neck on the original F50 is a bit stratty (which is great, and makes a great combo with the bridge), and Teles have traditionally been a mainly bridge orientated guitar ... but a new bridge on the F50 set with a bit more bite ... :drink:

Can't wait to hear clips. Who will call Roy Fulton? :)

I'm not sure whether you actually mean this, but it sounds like you guys are suggesting the neck pickup in the Blackguard Flat 50 and 55 Stagger sets has changed.
From what I've read so far, I'm not convinced that the existing Blackguard sets have changed in any way. My understanding is that the "new" pickups are in the 52 and 68 sets?
Luckily I'm not in a "got tele, need pups" mode right at the moment, otherwise I'd be getting my wallet worried as well!

What I personnaly understand is that the "original" BGF50 neck (42 AWG) is now the 52 neck (which would makes sense since - according to Tim's post - the "original" 50 neck was spec'd from a '52 set), and that there's a new (43 AWG), darker BGF50 neck.

Yeah, sounds to me like the BGF50 has a new neck. Not so sure about the '55 stagger though, I only have the '50 and only found out by chance about its neck winding (42AWG). If I had another Tele I would probably have ordered a set of '52s by now :-) And possibly the new '50 neck too!
