One thing I have noticed on my new 8 string guitar is a fretted B on the low F# string sounds completely different to an open B, which leads me to believe it's probably a double wound bass string just like Meshuggah use on their 8s.
Anyone here with a bass know if all bass string is double wound? I've seen singles that go as thin as .035"

yeah the fretted power chords on the low F# are truly bassier and chunkier. kinda like a 12th fret e power chord is woolier than a 7th fret one. it's a cool effect for mega chunk!
if you have a big low B you'll notice it's also double wond. my elixir .068 is at least. and it's sold as a guitar string

Spoke to my mate who used to play 6 string bass last night, according to him they are all double wound including the stupidly thin ones.
Didn't think to try it with power chords!!! Will give that a go later cheers

that i didn't know. but i guess if the high c is bright enough as it is, it would be worst if they were single wound.. i'll have a look at the shop to see how the .45 are wound. be back with my findings
