Title: Computer problem with audio interface

Just wondering if anyone can help me out with a problem I'm getting with my Edirol UA-25EX (usb). When it's plugged in, my laptop won't resume from standby when the lid is re-opened. The hdd lights and fans come on but the monitor won't display anything. Never used to be a problem as I only used it for recording, but since getting some monitors I'm using the interface as my main soundcard and don't want to have to unplug it each time I want to close the lid.

Plugged in, the battery is nackered so I can only use it plugged in!

Which operating system? Windows 7 has some sleep problems, apparently MS are working on fixes for these.

Is it going into sleep mode while the ASIO driver or Cubase is running? ASIO/Cubase do not like being powered down, it's probably best to close these programs if the computer's going to power down for a while.

Although if you're only running on mains power, why use sleep mode at all? I'd just go into Control Panel > Power Options and disable sleep/hibernate altogether!

It's on Windows XP. I think the Edirol uses ASIO so disabling that will probably just be as inconvenient as it'll need to go back on to work again, I think. I'll see what I can do with that though.

I could just leave it on all the time but it seems a bit wasteful, and turning it off completely is also annoying as it takes so long to start up :lol:

or ... here's something that may (or may not) be useful

Control Panel - System

View - Devices by connection

Expand the devices tree until you find the Edirol then go UP the "branches" (probably one step up) to find the USB Root Hub that the Edirol is connected to. Right-click this USB Root Hub and select Properties. The Power Management tab of the properties window has a checkbox saying "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" - uncheck this and any USB device plugged into this hub will prevent system sleep.

EDIT: this may just give you an alert box when the computer tries to power down saying Windows was not able to enter sleep mode due to a driver blah blah blah something something something

EDIT EDIT: if there are another other devices using the same USB Root Hub then that may also prevent sleep mode - nothing you can do in this case!

have you, a different usb slot (am guessing you have) or a powered usb hub or one you can try to see if that works with it without causing a problme

Well that's odd. Like the good man said, try the same trick but with another USB slot or an external USB hub. If it's not playing ball then I'd blame Bill Gates and just disable sleep mode.
