Title: Broken TU2 Tuner - Suggestions?
Post by: Brow on November 07, 2010, 11:23:46 PM
Hey guys.

The BOSS TU2 I've had for 10 years or so has decided to stop muting the output when switched on, hence making it useless for me for live use.

I've spoken to Roland UK and they've recommended a freelance engineer they use to repair it for me. I haven't been able to speak to him yet, but depending on cost, it may be easier to just buy a new tuner.

I guess my suggestion is what's good for less than £100? The only other tuner I've used apart from the TU2 is the Korg Pitchblack, which I have on another pedalboard.

Has anyone used the TU3 or the Polytune at all?

Guess I'm just checking my options out!

Thanks.

Craig

The Polytune looks interesting and the unit is compact too.

I got a Polytune and used to have a Pitchblack. I prefer the pitchblack. I ended up not using the polytuning feature cause it takes longer in the end than going string by string, and the pitchblack does a better job on that. Still the PT is not bad.

I would go for the turbo tuner!

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

I've had a look into that Turbo Tuner and while it looks like a good bit of kit, I just can't stretch to £129 for it at the minute

If you like the pitch black, why not stick with that and get another one?

I use a Korg PitchBlack (true bypass) or DT-10 (buffered).

If you want new, you'll struggle to beat the PitchBlack unless you need a buffer.

I've got a Polytune and its great, very fast and true bypass.

I have a Boss TU-12 for sale in seconds out for £30.00 fwiw

I've recently changed from a Strobostomp to a Polytune and for gigging purposes it's more than adequate, compact, silent switching and various modes available.... and I'm happy with it. Like you are thinking though if I had the cash I'd have gone for the Turbo Tuner.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

I had the TU2 on my main board for years, but when space became tight I moved it onto the 2nd board and put a Pitchblack in it's place, that's the only reason!

The new board the tuner will be going on will be with a Wah and a Boost and that's it, so I guess I could go TB and not need a buffer.
