Jane, my partner, is pregnant. A bit unexpected. What's even more unexpected is that she is expecting twins! That will make 4 kids. Very happy but a little shocked. Does anyone on here have twins?
Guitar playing will be on a definite hiatus for a while :o
-
woah, congratulations :D
-
Nice one! Congrats to you both :)
-
Congratulations mate.
-
wow! :o
Congratulations!! And hope everything goes right! Twins are a little more sensible pregnancy...
-
Congratulations × 2 :D
-
Congrats Ian :)
-
Congratulations!
I look forward to your future posts in "seconds out"
-
Congratulations Ian! Have you considered having your testicles cut off in an industrial accident, you could also get some cash the from the compensation for buying guitars?
-
well, big up.. i'm not man enough to have one kid, let alone two (or four!!). good luck with it all mate :)
-
Congrats - you're a braver man than I
-
By hell - cobgrats mate! Rather you than me though!!!
-
Ian!
Must be something in the water!
Let's hope that is doesn't reach north of Basingstoke!
Mike
-
Congratulations Ian, and Jane! :D
Sounds a slightly daunting prospect, but I'm envious of you!
I guess this makes that new Strat a mere pipe dream....
-
Nice one. Make sure they grow up playing guitar. It's your only hope!
-
Blimey, bet that was a shocker!
My bro is expecting twins in March. It's their first (and second) kid. Laughed my arse off when he old me.
-
Wow! Congrats Ian!
-
Wooo!! OO-er, etc...
Congratulations :D
Yep, I have experience of twins. Mine are 18, but I haven't had any contact with them since they were 4 or 5. And my wife (now) is a specialised "twins" nanny. I haven't met her latest charges but I know the last lot quite well (my Fiesta Red strat is named after one of them).
Twins are, as you are probably hoping/fearing/expecting, both more rewarding and more of a nightmare than a singleton.
It's just like a singleton except it's twice most things and many more times more some other things. For example, if you have two kids already, you're about to introduce a further 8 person-to-person relationships into your home.
You're gonna have your work cut out, old chap . Make sure you both talk about it a lot, what your fears/expectations are, BEFORE they arrive - time will seem rather short the minute you get them home...
... anyway, that must have been a huge surprise. My first wife passed out when they told her  (I'd already had some prior warning because I'd been watching the scan thinking "well, either the machine's f*cked, or that's more than one... or there's something terribly wrong...").
Congratulations again, to both of you :D
-
congrats ian!!
1) dont dress them the same
2) dont ever refer to them as 'the twins', as much as you want too!
3) get that tele build sorted while you still can!!!
-
Congrats, mate - very exciting!
Terrifying: yes.
But! Being a musicial father is great. Volume might be an issue for the first few years, but then you've got all the joys of "turn that down, dad!!!" when they're older!!!
I LOVE being noisier and more anoying than my kids.
Mark.

+1, big, BIG, time :D
And don't read Audrey Niffeneger's second novel, either
-
Congratulations to you all! I haven't any experience of twins, but im sure you'll be fine :)

Cheers Andy, we've already had quite a lot of chats about it. I'm sure it will be very stressful when they arrive so we're focussing quite a bit on how we'll support each other etc. My BKP time has been limited over the last week and it's only now that I've got a few spare minutes!
Jane also thought that there was something wrong with the machine - she assume it was some sort of glitch in the software. Massive shock obviously.

Yep, good advice. Jane's being reading lots of twins books. Quite a lot of good advice in there - the dressing them the same and calling them "the twins" was heavily featured in one of the books. I'm wondering if there is any good insight into twins in the Arnie film
I had a look up of that Audrey Niffeneger novel. I don't think I'll be reading it!
Thanks to everyone for the messages. There probably won't be a fire sale from me though as I don't have much gear to move on! Just an amp and a few pedals. I'd better get used to not having much gear for the next few years :(
-
Just a quickie update on this thread (inspired by Sifu Ben). We're having quite a few scans at the moment due to potential complications with having twins - all good so far.
Recently we have been told that they are girls. Boys will be outnumbered 4 to 2 by girls in my house come late April/early May!
-
Twins, aghh! My aunts are twins, so I'm somewhat nervous :?

Filling me with confidence that you are nervous for me!
I'm sure Thomas (my 14 month old) will love having 3 sisters and all the friends they bring round when he is older.
-
Double gratz dude!
-
Congrats! If the twins come with a Twin Reverb, you're a double happy dad.
-
Indeed!
I draw the line at double neck guitars though.

Doublenecks do seem more than a bit unnecessary, but I'd really like a Gibson EDS-1275 if they weren't so huge and weighty. They just look so cool.
-
The twins arrived today. Annabel and Louisa, 4lbs 11oz and 5lbs 13oz respectively. Apparently pretty good weights for twins. They seem healthy enough but will be in hospital with their Mum for the next 2 days and nights.
-
I get to be the first to congratulate you. I hope Mum and little ones get a bit of rest after the hard work.
-
Congratulations Ian! :D
(I'm thinking of that advert where that bloke is standing at the window in the hospital and they wheel in a whole row of babies....)
-
Congratulations :D
-
Cheers! I don't think I've ever seen that ad Philly. Is it a recent one?
-
Fantastic news mate, I'm chuffed to bits for you :D Good luck with the settling in at home and I hope it all goes smoothly!
-
Cheers! I don't think I've ever seen that ad Philly. Is it a recent one?
I feel an idiot now!
I think it's an insurance company ad. The new father is standing waving to his wife and baby, with a little cuddly toy in his hand.... then they wheel in about 5 more babies.
-
Well done mate.
Not long now and you can tie their reins together and use them all like huskies.
-
congrats Ian!
now, let us know how many people give you matching outfits for them in the next few days :)
-
Congrats!
-
Good to know they are healthy! :D
Congrats Ian!!! =)
-
Congratulations, Ian - all the best to you and your partner.

None yet! I have made the point to anyone who listens that I don't want to dress my twins in the same clothes. Maybe those words have been heard loud and clear!

Nope, doesn't ring any bells with me. Not sure why you feel an idiot though!

I think it's an Avida(?) advert that comes on in the pre-programme bit before dramas etc?
I think I know what Phil's talking about and it may have been used inthe Silent Witness series???
-
Ah - that would probably explain it, I watch Silent Witness every now and then but Sky+ everything and speed through adverts.
-
Congratulations to you both :D
Seems a reasonable weight for twins to me (mine were a good pound less... the smallest was tiny... but they were a month early).
I assume they went near to term if they're coming home in a couple of days?
Two girls, eh? Suddenly you and Master Price (forgotten his name, sorry little chap) are somewhat out-numbered... sounds like you'll be funding more shoes/etc than guitars for a good few years now
-
They were officially (NHS official that is) 36 weeks when delivered. Jane and I reckon they had their dates wrong as she had calculated 35 weeks - and she hardly every gets stuff like that wrong. Many debates were had with the NHS specialists and they wouldn't budge at all.
They should now be home anytime between Saturday and Monday - Louisa (the bigger one) had a spot of jaundice and needed to be monitored a bit today. All seems to be ok and on the mend though so now it's a case of seeing them feed and put weight on before they will be allowed home.
As far as guitars vs shoes go the guitars will always win for me! Just means Thomas (or Tom as I call him more often, unless he is being naughty) will get more guitar stuff bought for him and Jane can do the girls stuff!
-
big congrats!!
-
Many congratulations.
-
Congratulations. I have a friend who has twin girls and she tried to make them wear different things, but they fight over the colour they want, and it is easier to dress them the same!
-
Thanks for all the congratulations guys - much appreciated.
Due to them being premature they will be in for a few more days - probably won't be back home until Tuesday next week! That day is my birthday so will be a great present if they are allowed back then.
As far as clothing goes I did state to many people to not buy matching outfits for them. My parents came by today with a present. Yep, you guessed it, matching outfits!

The evil marketing pigs refer to that as an Ident
