Title: Anyone tried this speaker combo?
Post by: Brow on November 14, 2010, 08:10:13 PM
Hey guys.

I've got the go ahead to be able to order a new 2x12 cab for my Splawn Quick Rod, so now I have to decide on speakers.

When I got my Quick Rod I tried it through a Diamond Amplification 4x12 that had 2 Vintage 30s and 2 G12Hs in it and it sounded really good.

The obvious thing to do would be to put 1 of each in the new cab, but that wouldn't have enough power handling for the amp, so I've been considering a G12-65 (instead of a G12H) paired with a Vintage 30.

Has anyone tried this combo before? If so, what did you think?

I emailled Celestion too and this was their response:

"The V30 with a G12-65 a good pairing for a bright amp as the 65 will darken off the top end and give you great definition for the metal bits. The V30 will add grit and bags of tone so it should sound great."

Just thought I'd ask for anyones 1st hand experience of these speakers.

Thanks.

Craig

I've tried them separately but not together!

They're quite different, so it's gotta be worth a try?

The Eminence Wizard is tonally close to the G12H and has a higher power handling - you could combine that with the V30s.

I used to have G12-65 and V30 in my ported 2x12 and it was good. But the V30 is louder than the 65 so it got kinda lost.

I would go for two G12-65s instead.

Not really; there is still a 4dB difference in efficiency between the V30 and the Wizard.
