Yo, candy for the metalheads. For me (no shredder at all) the Blackstar, Rockerverb and 6534+ made the best overall impression.

Funny, that. I thought the CLX was the clear winner with notable mention for the 6534 and Nitrox, and found the rockerverb and blackstar to be among the worst!

I also like the VH4, but found it really lacking there compared to what I know it can sound like, and was ambivelent about most of the others; they all had some good things going for them, some bad, except the randall and H&K, which were flat out dreadfull.

Why do they demo the clean channels with hi-output ceramic pups ??? Sounds as cold and sterile as my X2Ns did

And FWIW, why do they only demo metal/shred stuff ? Hi-gain amps are not for metalheads only :(

I told your JDC, I'm working! Hopefully get a chance to give it a listen later, it's rather a lax afternoon in store (hoorah for birthdays).

Im an oddball. I prefer Solid state amps, or rectifiers over all else :)

Opinions on the amps from what i hear:
Blackstar - Hate it! Floppy. Not my style at all.

Diamond Nitrox - A bit nicer than the blackstar. but still not me. nice though. Just not for me.

Diezel vh4 - Misha makes it sound nice around 4 mins. but i would never pay that much for such a tone :S

Engl Powerball II - I disliked engl up until they made the fireball 100. I like this amp better than the other two so far. But if the EQ is like the old powerball, then i'll never end up with the sound i truly want.

Framus  "Fwaming" Dwagon - Sounds good. But that pricetag :S And it still dosent do it. it has chunk yes. But can it stay clean when i start to play fast.. I doubt it.

Fryette Pitbull - Nice amp! but too pricy for what it delivers.

H&K  Coreblade - Aweful name!. I dont like this amp. Its fizzy. How can they put a price tag on like that :S

Krank nineteen80 - Kranks just suck :S the only reason i like this is because its affordable. but still. this is nothing special.

Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectumfrier - Why do they keep on redoing this amp? The first version is the most popular. Why change something which already works. but still.. I cant stop loving this amp.

Orange Rockerverb - Good amp.. just not for real metal. God damn. Why do they have this buzzsaw sound on almost all their clips :S

Peavey 6534+ - Nice. Best clip so far.

Randall RT 100 - can these guys make tube amps? Okay randall should keep on doing Hybrid/SS amps. Thats what they do best.

Soldano Avenger - I like the concept of this amp :) Nice sound!

The Diezel VH4 in the test was loaded with 6L6's, it rocks soooo much better with EL34's.
Liked the Peavey.

Maybe I like the more classic/creamy lowmid-tones of these, but it's all a matter of taste. I play a Rockerverb 50, so I am far from objective.

Well, since you mention it, I mainly play a pittbull 100 CL. But then I also have a powerball 1 and didnt think much of what they made it sound like there. I thought that the tones they dialed in there on the powerball sounded like the worst tones you can get out of a powerball. They played to most of its weaknesses - weird cardboardy mids, gain, presence and treble set so it sounds saturated but thin, grating top end (and one strength; the low end was at least pretty tight and percussive).

The dual recrtifier can sound FAR better than that. Dont get me wrong, I'm not a fan of them and think they're a rip off over here, but  that was obviously at low volume and without really carefull dialing in. The interaction between the EQ bands on a rectifier can take some getting used to to get the best out of it, and they really need to be loud to be good. Its one of those amps where at low to mid volume you wonder what the fuss is about, and then you stick a boost on it and crank it and then understand why people like them (even if you dont).

You're right. Most 100-watt tubeamps need to be cranked to sound good. However, I was amazed that the Peavey sounded so good in this field of way more expensive contenders.

I love that seventh string on the Framus. It was the vibrations of epicness right there. And I quite liked the Diamond. Just commenting as I go really, the Pittbull I love with the TS9 (maybe I should get one for my 50W)

Loving the drive channel on the Coreblade.

IMO the Peavey is the one I'd go for. It has all I've said squashed into it. Not totally accurate but it sounds good. I'm not an amp geek though.

Hmmm... weird. I liked the Peavey the most. Is it maybe that that is just a tone I have grown so accustomed to?

The Rectifier was also very fat, heavy and "metallish"-sounding. The one I liked the least was... the Powerball. Now that was unexpected.
