A Strat single coil, which combines two magnet types- in one pickup. AlNiCo V on the bass side... AlNiCo II on the treble strings.
Innovation? Or "snake-oil"!??
Discuss, please :)

Neither really, alot of early Fender coils 'accidently' mixed IIs and Vs-we come across it occasionally when we're doing vintage rewinds.
I'm not a fan of IIs, I find IVs and Vs mix better although to be honest a good magnet stagger cures the problem just as effectively.

Well I don't know about innovation, but its one of my favorite Strat pickups. Most pickups aren't really innovative anymore, just variations on themes. Most players haven't really accepted true innovation in the area of pickups. Probably with good reason.

To be honest, what's innovation in a pickup?
Until someone invents a totally different way of getting the sound of the guitar to the amp, surely we're all finding different ways of making the same thing?

You said what I was trying to say :D

I'm going to strap 6 mini microphones to my guitar, how innovative is that?
:p
Andy!

Then I guess the only really innovative guitar out there at the moment is the Gibson MAGIC guitar; I suppose a Roland GK2 would qualify as well ...
