Title: Anyone tried the new Vox Mini3 yet?
Post by: dave_mc on November 22, 2010, 11:15:46 PM
Hi everyone,

I've been thinking of getting one of the mini-modellers for messing about with in the living room when I can't be bothered cranking up my valve amps. The Vox Mini3 looks pretty nice (though I haven't tried it)... any thoughts?

Other options would be the Roland Microcube, Vox DA5 and the Line 6 Microspider. I don't think the other manufacturers of modellers make any mini models, but I could be wrong- I haven't really considered any of the bigger modellers as it needs to be small for the living room... if I were to get a bigger amp I could just move one of my valve amps in. :D

Tones I'd need would be a wide range... possibly with slightly more bias towards higher gain tones, but the ability to do everything pretty well would be the main thing.

Thanks in advance for any help. :)

Think these sound ok for in the living room. By the way, Fender launched a Champion 500, with way more gain then the 600. Maybe an option too.

Interesting, I didn't realise that, thanks. I'll take a look :D

By the way, have you tried the Mini3 compared to the microcube and da5? Only one I've tried is the microcube, and it's quite nice, but compared to the newer mini-modellers it's a bit light on the number of amp models... it has the bare minimum, but that's about it

Nope, haven't. I think Vox does a great job in sounding natural on the drivesettings. In my humble opinion a bit better then boss/roland. I use a Orange Crush 30R at home. Great sounding cleans, drives very nice. Yep, only two channels, but for me enough versatile. I take it sometimes to rehearse in the band. Does a nice job and I don't have to take/lift my Rockerverb 50...

No worries, thanks for the help anyway.

Any idea on when the champion 500 will be released? I looked on the fender site and didn't see anything about it (though I may have just missed it).

I saw it on the website of http://www.maxguitarstore.com in the hague holland, but now this items seems gone.

Fender - MaxGuitarStore   - [ Vertaal deze pagina ]

There is also a champion 300, but this is solidstate with dsp.

I have a DA5 and the mid-gain models sound great, but the higher gain settings are a little flat. Takes pedals nicely on the clean channels mind.

Thanks for the info. My (limited) experience with the ad15vt was similar- lower gain was great, higher gain not so much.

Wonder if it's the same on the mini3... though not sure if I can bring myself to buy the microcube when it only has half as many amp models... and costs a fiver more
