Title: mississippi queen neck with warpig bridge
Post by: grinandbarrett on November 25, 2010, 02:00:55 AM
Hello,

I have an Ibanez RG321 (mahogany body). I really would like to put a mq p90 in the neck and a warpig in the bridge. My guitar has a 5 way switch. Does this mean I have to get a coil tapped p90? If so would it affect the sound of the pick up?

Any help would greatly be appreciated

I cant really comment on the tap as i wasnt aware you could with a p90 with it being single coil.

I have one paired witha  miracle man in a mahogany ibanez and output wise and tonally they go together amazingly

I imagine it would pair up with the WP really well too

Thanks for the input Toe Knee. does your ibanez have the switch? If so how does the wiring work with it? Don't you need four wires to hook it up?

The one i have that setup in is just a 3 way blade switch.

I have it wired
1bridge hum
2 both
3 neck hum

if you email tim he will be able to tell you about coil splits etc

Sorry I'm kind of new, what is his address?
Although I think I would rather have a 3way like you.

if you go to the bkp sound clips section and look for his posts then just click his name you can send him a message from there.

If you would prefer 3 way wiring which i do most of the time then just buying a simple 3 way switch to replace the 5 way is all you need to do

Hi,  I have a Warpig bridge with an MQ neck in my Explorer and they sound great together.  The explorer uses the standard 3 way Gibson switch, and I have a push pull tone to give me series/parallel on the warpig.  You could do what Toe-Knee suggested and get a 3 way fro your guitar, or if you are adventurous you could get the super switch from BK and have it switch regular warpig (series), warpig parallel, Warpig series + MQ, Warpig parallel + MQ, MQ.

Thanks Toe Knee! Your the greatest!

Hey Phil you don't happen to have some sound clips of your Explorer I could listen to do you?
I would really appreciate it. Have a pretty good idea of what i want it to sound like, and since your git fiddle is made from the same woods, I would think they would sound very similar.

Thanks!

Unfortunately the Explorer is the victim of my lack of space at the moment and is in storage.  However, I remember that every time I strapped it on, I had to start playing Black Sabbath riffs!  It gets all the classic Tony Iommi sounds and more.  Having the parallel option on the Warpig gives some really nice powerful clean tones .
