Hey BKP forums, I'm a newcomer but have been around these forums quite a few times now, I'm finally diving into getting a set of BKPs but I need a bit of advice, most specifically the neck pick-up
The guitar I own that I wish to install these pups is a PRS SE Custom 22 Stoptail, a mahogany body and maple top, with a mahogany set-in neck and rosewood fingerboard, the scale length is 25".
I've decided that for the bridge pick-up I want the C-pig, I've heard the tone from it and absolutely love it, powerful, awesomely hot, s'great.
But I haven't quite decided fully on the neck pick-up for my lead tone, my solos etc. I've heard clips of a few different BKPs in the neck position, and so far the one I love the most is the Painkiller in the neck, I heard a clip of it shredding, and I loved the tone.
What I'm wondering is, even though I'm pretty set on the painkiller for the neck, is there any other specific pick-up that in your own opinion you believe to be equal if not better than the painkiller in the neck position for lead? Whether from personal experience or not? The type'a tone that I'm goin' for is alot like say, Avenged Sevenfold type'a tone, very clear, alot of sustain etc.

The neck PK is a ceramic pickup - the only ceramic neck model that BKP do (AM neck is presumably alnico?). If you like the tone of that from the various clips, then it's probably the right one for you.
I'm not a neck pickup player, so can't comment on specifics, but with the PK standing out alone in the field, it sounds like it's the correct decision :)

Thanks for the reply Roo, yeah I suppose it does come down to what I like personally =] And the painkiller in the neck sounded real nice to me. I'd forgotten actually that the PK neck was a ceramic, but for good reason I suppose, sounds great =]

Yeah the AM neck is definitely alnico but can be ordered as a ceramic.
I have been told many times that the PK neck is by far the best for metal soloing if thats all you want it for.
However if you are also wanting pristine cleans i would go with something like the CS neck
awesome for shredding but cleans up awesomely too

Yeah the tone the PK neck projects is quite something, it's brilliant. Initially that is indeed all I wanted it for, shredding up and that, but then again I probably will slip back into playing clean too. To be honest though I think I'll be doing alot more metal soloing than concentrating on anything else for the time being, but yeah, PKs are still for me I think! =]

Awesome stuff i wasn't trying to put you off i was just throwing in a variable as i know choosing pickups can be awkward if you don't look at every little detail

Ohh no no it's cool I'd rather know absolutely everything about a pick-up cause as you mentioned it can indeed be awkward choosing between multiple ones. I've decided I am gonna stick with the PK neck, mainly because I have been focusing alot on my soloing lately, and I don't really see myself using clean too much anytime soon and even if I did, it's not like the pick-ups not able to go clean at all aha, but yeah the PK is deffo for me I believe =] Thanks for your input man.
