I'm seriously considering one of these. Either the 50w or 200w.
Anyone had much experience? I'll be playing guitar and bass through it :D
Anyone had experience with the Orange PPC and HP8 cabs?

Have tried the thunderverb very nice. I have the rocker 30 and the black coloured orange 2x12 both built like tanks sound great
-
... why would ANYONE need a 200 watt valve amp???
-
Would for bass playing use also. It has a built in attenuator!!

you've not heard our drummer's snare, then...

Aye, I've played with some LOUD drummers in my time. A mate of mine is incredibly loud, I've seen people wince and flinch at him just setting up and warming up. He uses three ride cymbals!!

ritchie blackmore used a 200w marshall modded to 280 w or something, sounded great!
-
Yeah but he was playing arena's

I play a Rockerverb 50 into a 2x12 cab and it can be freakin' loud, so 50 watts is enough for most stages. The Thunderverb has less gain then the Rockerverb, but the advantage of attenuation. Not a metalamp, but anything from clean, crunch, classic rock to hardrock. Lot of tones in it. I nearly bought it, but liked the creamy 6V6-tones of the Rockerverb just a bit more.

I saw him with said amp at the Queens Hall in Barnstaple (definitely NOT an aren a!). Without doubt the loudest guitar I have ever heard - had bad tinnitus for days afterwards :(.

+1 same here.

Hey fellas. I've been trawling through this forum's sound clips for most of the week, looking for a replacement to my Burstbucker 3 and noticed this thread and HAD TO respond.
I own a Thunderverb 50 head and have to tell you, it is TEN TIMES more metal than the Rockerverb!
The amp has two channels. Channel A is meant to be modelled on the Rockerverb, but personally I don't think it has the same amount of gain, as it falls short when I compare it to my mate's RV50. But channel B, well... it opens portals to places that one should not enter without battle-axe and/or 8-gauge shotgun(s)!!
This amp was designed for down-tuned metal. And I'm not talking your sh.tty (is swearing ok on these boards?) nu-metal/alt. prog cr@p. I'm talking that doom/stoner/sludge, A# & lower growl that bands like Cult of Luna, Kylesa, High on Fire & Baroness, etc... thrive on.
I have a recent recording showing how good this amp gets (I'm playing a mix of doom, stoner and thrash-style hardcore riffs) but it's 5MB so I can't upload atm. If you want to hear how metal this amp gets, let me know and I'll trim it to 2MB.
As for my choice of p/up, I'm currently considering the Riff Raff to replace the BB3, but am curious about the Cold Sweat as well. The thunderverb's channel B is has a generous amount of low and mid, so it's hard to judge which p/up is right from the sample. Would love to hear either one recording thru a TV50!

Alright, so lets narrow it down. I'll be playing anything from Bronx styled punk to Entomed style metal. Rockerverb or Thunderverb?

I don't want to feed the impression I know better, but the Monkeylord Rob Chappers (lots of vids on youtube) endorsed a while the Orange-line and he stated the Rockerverb has more gain then the Thunderverb. Therefore he favoured the Rockerverb. I played them both and I think he's right. Nevertheless, the Thunderverb is a great amp and with the right guitar you possibly can get it into metal-territority. I never tried since I am not a metalhead. But even with a Tele it the Rockerverb can be ferocious. The question is: would you buy an Orange for metal since there are good competitors for metaltones in this pricerange? Like Engl, Mesa and Peavey (6505).

Remember, the Thunderverb is designed for bass as well, so 200w bass isn't as loud :)

Because it's 100 louder, durrrr

Ok I'm uploading a short clip of this recording I was talking about. I cut it on my phone using ringdroid so not sure if the qualitywas deceased. And paste note it was recording with a $20 sm57 clone, so its a bit muddy.
lets see If this works... :P
EDIT: Ok sweet it worked! To the OP, both amps will do Bronx (fckyeaa!) but only the Thunderverb will get you entombed (Wolverine Blues or GTFO  ). That's why I got it!
And just cos you mentioned Entombed, have you listened to Black Breath's new album Heavy Breathing? Listen to the guitar tone on that album...

Hah! Yeah, OK - I get that.
;)
I've got an old 4xEL34 amp - roughly 120 watts. I can't be anywhere near it much above 9 o'clock. And (not wanting to get into a "my dad's bigger than your dad argument"), I've played with some pretty loud drummers.
Does anyone really need that volume on stage? Even Richie, playing stadiums, surely wouldn't be maxing out a 200 watt amp on stage...

Heavy Breathing is the tits!
50w Thunderverb it is then! Can't be arsed with playing bass anymore, can't afford it!!

speaking of black breath... I saw them the other week.
i watched the opening 1/3rd and the later 1/3rd of their set in Hasselt.
I think i've met one of their guitarists before when On was on tour.
they were using JCM800's and I'm not sure what for bass. hire gear.
My friends playing after them use a thunderverb for bass, and for a guitar a A/B/Y splitter into a jcm800 and an Ampeg V4. the Ampeg sounded awesome. the Thunderverb sounded awesome.
doubt you can go wrong with the thunder 50.

200Watts is about as useful as an 8x12" cab. Those never caught on either.
That aside the Thunderverbs are good amps, but if you want something with a huge power rating (for excessive downtuning) I'd rather look at the Mesa Rectifier with 150Watts. The new version can be dialed down to 50 or 100 Watts.
-
150 watts of ferocious tubepower? When's the gig at the 02-arena?
-
surely 200watts is to 100watts as to what 100watts is to 50watts?
I mean, 100 and 50 aren't too different. 10watts is half as loud as 100watts.
so 200 and 100 can't be THAT different?
I agree you don't NEED 200watts, but after hearing a couple of people using thunderverbs plus 8x10's for bass last week, I'd say its definitely a cool amp.

Hmmmmm ........ do I go for this setup or a Blackstar HT-1R ? :?
