Gotta admit to a hankering after one, but wanted to know if anyones tried one yet & what they think of it
-
Are these the stripped-down LPs with P-90s?
I think Andy said on another thread that they're near-impossible to track down because Gibson had underestimated the demand (but that may have just been the goldtops...).
-
I tried one. It was okay. I know £800 is good for a proper Gibson, and they do look really nice but that one did not feel like an £800 guitar.
It wasn't bad but just didn't do it for me.

I must say that the black ones with cream soapbars look cool. Heard some clips and they were ok, but nothing surreal. Have to try one in the shop in the Hague.
-
I've heard alot of good things about them from guys that have decent enough ears.
But you can forget about finding a gold one. The few, if any, that came to Europe were sold out in a New York minute.
There's still plenty of black and sunburst models around.
I friend of mine is thinking about one of these. If he gets one I'm dying to try it.

I saw one on Sunday at the Merseyside Guitar Show
I think Dawsons have the goldtop
-
I've still not seen one, probably a good thing seeing as they're just in my price range for "try it, oh wow, what the hell..."
I did have a vague hankering a while back, but I'd managed to forget it... So if I find one this weekend while sorting out capos and stuff for the nephew's chrimbo pressies... well, I'll know who to blame!
I do understand that there's black ones knocking about. Not so sure about that finish, but I did think one of the sunburst finishes looked quite cute in pictures though...

Are they the guitars that were destined for Japan or some-such story because if so, the other guitarist in my band bought one. It is a very nice guitar- wouldn't go mad over it but nice enough. It plays well and the tone is pretty good. I would describe build quality as pretty good- seen better and worse.
-
Hey, I managed to get a Goldtop (ordered mine in june), Its really solid, I know some people have found lots of flaws but mines near perfect, No tuning problems. I prefer it to my mates 58 VOS, Im not into the really thick finish on the other gibsons and I didn't expect to be able to afford to buy a gibson goldtop.
The neck on the tributes seem more of a 60's neck than a 50's. If I had the money I'd buy another one as a spare. I think it was worth the 5+ month wait for it, but i have very little experience with other gibsons (appart from my mates vos and a sg faded that i played once and wasn't that impressed with.).
All the best

well as I couldn't find one for love or money that I haven't got I've ended up getting a deal on a 70's Aria Pro II with mini humbuckers...not quite the same, but a deal and a half so we'll see!
-
If anyone is looking for one still. There's a nice one in PMT Manchester. Played it for about 5mins. Well worth a punt if anyone has the cash
-
They've now issued a 60's series. They seem the same, but the neck is a 60's profile.
-
There was no tag on this one. It could have been 60s in that case
-
60's tribute in honeyburst.
