Title: Grovers
Post by: marantz1300 on December 03, 2010, 02:41:49 PM
To stop GAS,I thought I'd make a few changes to my 71 Gold Top.So I've gone down Bonamassa road.I still need nylon saddles and a pickguard. In the meantime I need to change the tuners ,but dont want to bore the headstock out if possible.Do Grover make any machineheads that will fit Kluson size holes ?(http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii98/marantz1300/jbgt4.jpg)(http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii98/marantz1300/bonamassa2.jpg)(http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii98/marantz1300/jbgt3.jpg)

Nope, Grover only make Grover size tuners as far as I know....

Assuming the headstock's unmodified, the holes for the Klusons will only be 11/32" in diameter, too small for Grovers - unless you get the "vintage"-style Grovers, but that defeats the object.

Drilling the holes out should be an option? I've always preferred the look of grovers on LPs, it's a shame they're hardly ever used.

What's wrong with the stock ones?

We keep the TonePros Kluson ones in stock - a direct fit and have both the vintage bushings version and the modern Grover like fittings - they look just the same as the old ones but the gearing is a lot more steady than some of the other Kluson types - I really like them.

Nothings wrong with the originals apart from ones not a double ring. I want the Grovers for the look.

Where did you get your nylon saddles from?

As I fancy trying them out on my Lester...
