well, im going to get a new set of humbucking pickups...and ive heard good about both Miracle man and Warpigs. i play mostly heavy/thrash metal and looking for something hi gain and powerful. That Miracle man example that Tim did on the player sect has inspired me to get Miracle man pickups, but im wondering about Warpigs, because ive been hearing alot about them...
please help out!
ive taken your advice and will give more info...
im mainly into alot of SOAD, but i would really like a tone like from Ozzy. what im mainly looking for is something that i could find useful for playing lead guitar in a band of heavy/thrash metal.
i hope this post is more useful now, if you would like any more info, please just tell me and i will add it

From what you've said, I'd go with the MM as well (I plumped for it), but it'd be easier to judge if you said what kind of bands you're inspired by/want to sound like. British heavy metal tones vary somewhat from US thrash, for example.
You may want to wait for the Painkiller or check out the Nailbomb for a more all round pup - wait for the veterans to chip in.

Sorry to make this into a debate, but everybody keeps saying that the Nailbombs are an "all-round" pup. I have to disagree - it's a humbucker with a very high output, that i'd only use for hard rock and metal. it does clean up very well, and can do manage pretty much any other tone with the right set-up; however, out of the BKP range I'd not call it the "all-rounder". Would you not go for something much more balanced like the Mule if you wanted versatility?
-
More all-round than the MM, though. It really depends on what xiad is looking for - the cost of true versatility may be too much if he's just looking for thrash/heavy metal tones. The Mule is superb, but doesn't scream or shred as well as the MM, which is why more info is needed.
To partially answer the part about 'pigs, I'd say they're better suited for chugging - black/death metal, and still good for thrash - I've only heard the clips and read about them though.

The Nailbomb isn't considered the "all rounder" pickup, It's just a good balance of power and tone. Like you said it cleans up well and can manage pretty much any other tone, I cant really see your argument there!
The Miracle man is a great pickup, it is extreamly powerful and has a very tight bottom end. What kind of bands/players do you listen to?

Mules would be great for a G&R and Zep vibe, and would probably handle the rest of it if you "dig in" when playing -- but the Nailbomb would handle the heavier stuff you mention pretty well, I think, but sound good when playing the Zeppish type thing. Mmm, my tuppence, anyway ....
-
Riff raffs could be an option here too. More power than a Mule. They should be able to nail G n' R, SOD, Zep.........dunno if they're right for Metallica, though.
-
well, once i got this band going, i will be playing more stuff similar to foo fighters and SOAD. does anyone think that the miracle man would be good for that, because that tone i really like, especially from that demo tim did.
maybe what i play most of the time is a bit too varied for 1 pickup to cover all at once so ill narrow it down a bit...
need something with high power for heavy/thrash metal like system
oh, and i am prepared to wait for something new to come out, because it could be a few years before i get a set of pickups...
-
If I remember tonight, I'll re-do a system of a down cover i did ages ago with my warpig to show you what it sounds like. Look for a post from me probably around 9pm.

Well, for modern high gain tones, the MM and 'Pig are the ways to go. If you want to shred on solos, then the Miracle Man. If you want to chug brutally, then the Warpig. 'Nuff said!

ok, thanks 4 that. uh, blackout...where would you put the file? in this post? or in the players section?

Actually, the Nailbomb is touted as being extremely versatile, many times by you personally. So, indy said 'all rounder' instead of 'extremely versatile' or 'most versatile'.
I think indy was just posting based off his experience as a NB owner. Yeah, he used a little hyperbole ... but, I think we knew what he was refering to. Not every post needs to be replied to.

Yes, Indy was posting based on his experiance, and we appreciate the input.
Im just making the point that it is not our "do all" humbucker, but if some one plays a mix of different styles of metal the Nailbomb is a good choice because it handles High gain and clean settings very well.

Im thinking that you would probably get on best with either the Nailbomb or Warpig. The Nailbomb has a full midrange and a old school metal tone (early sepultura) the Warpig has more sturated gain and a bigger bass response. Both would do what you want well, its just deciding wether you would like to go for all out blistering metal or go lower gain and have more versitility.
