Title: Holy Diver vs Nailbomb and what to do with a Chopper
Post by: herbychimp on December 19, 2010, 12:49:51 PM
Hi

Finally got around to scr@ping together the funds to sort out my strat (Corgan hard-tail model) definately want a full size HB in the bridge - I hate the current p.up (based on a tone zone) but was wondering whether to go for the Nailbomb or Holydiver. Strat body is alder we tend to play a mixture of 70's-through to noughties rock tunes. I need warmth, punch and some versatility. As for the neck and middle - really considering Irish tours although I am wondering wether to keep the Chopper in it's current mid position and add a Dimarzio SD sc in the neck..any thoughts? Another option is to move the Chopper to the neck and add a single Irish tour or .. put another full sized HB in the neck that would match well with a Holydiver / Nailbomb; something creamy and a little more vintage. Once again, any suggestions would be welcome.

cheers

Stef

My guitar's not the same as yours but it sounds like we're after similar things. I was thinking of an Alnico V Nailbomb for the bridge as it seems to be extremely versatile. In my head, following my research, I have the idea that it's the pickup that has the best balance between fat Alnico, PAF-type tone and ceramic cut and articulation but as I haven't tried it yet, I may be wrong. For the neck pickup, it sounds like you have the option of going either full sized humbucker or single coil. I don't have that option but I do want a single coil sized pickup that gives me creamy leads and gives more than a nod to a PAF-type tone. So far, it seems like the Slowhands have the fattest, creamiest leads and sounds least like a conventional single coil so I'm thinking of going with Alnico V Nailbomb bridge with Slowhand neck and middle fitted with the optional baseplates. It's not an HSS set that Tim offers but I don't see why it won't work because he does offer a Nailbomb/Irish Tour set and the power of the Slowhands are very similar.

That's my theory but someone with more experience may say I'm wrong  :)

A-Bomb bridge, Slowhand-middle + Abbraxxas for the neck. My idea.
