Hello,
How would a calibrated set of Holy Divers sound in a Strat?
My "Strat" is a Warmoth parts guitar :) It has the usual bolt-on, top-routed, 25.5" construction, with:
Maple neck and fretboard (stainless-steel frets)
Alder body
Kahler 2315 flatmount tremolo
Earvana Floyd locking nut
right now, it has a pickguard with 2 hum routings, pickup selector, and a single volume pot. no tone pots.
the name Holy Diver evokes old-school metal in my head, which is exactly what I like to play. I've been using a Dimarzio Super 3 and Paf Pro set, but want to replace them with something different. does the Holy Diver have any "grainy" qualities to it? (which I like) or is it more smooth?
bands/tones I like:
NWOBHM
Mercyful Fate
King Diamond
Accept
Venom
early speed/thrash stuff
thanks

The Holy Diver seems a very popular option in that type of guitar and should work well, as should the Nailbomb. The other option might be a Black Dog as I've heard some really good reports about that and while it's associated with a Led Zep type of sound, can also do what you're after.

doesn't sound like you're after a holy diver at all
it's smooth, fat and open, and not aggressive or grainy
probably a painkiller or ceramic nailbomb
I'd say cold sweat if you had a mahogany flying V or something
