Title: Pickups for my LP
Post by: Joseph777 on December 27, 2010, 04:58:37 PM
Hi my name is Joseph
Well  i wanted to ask you something I´ve  bought a left handed Gibson Les Paul Traditional Ebony
(http://www.google.com.pe/imgres?imgurl=http://www.musik-produktiv.co.uk/downloadbar/012/12911/100058795_Glam.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.musik-produktiv.co.uk/gibson-les-paul-traditional-eb.aspx&usg=__zAL4ScpD_6hAiBx13Gj-Me626fk=&h=683&w=1024&sz=84&hl=es&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=3vpygOepmCLS8M:&tbnh=139&tbnw=175&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dgibson%2Bles%2Bpaul%2Btraditional%2Bebony%26hl%3Des%26biw%3D1680%26bih%3D866%26gbv%3D2%26tbs%3Disch:1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=694&vpy=85&dur=474&hovh=183&hovw=275&tx=154&ty=59&ei=38QYTe6eJ8ys8Abp8fDGDQ&oei=38QYTe6eJ8ys8Abp8fDGDQ&esq=1&page=1&ndsp=47&ved=1t:429,r:4,s:0)
and I want to put it some Bare Knuckle pickups on it but I´m not sure about the model yet.
I want it to have nice cleans, and more singing leads tones and massive rythm tones
I play mostly Dream theater, Opeth, Guns n Roses, Alter Bridge
here are some vids of reference for the tone I´m looking for:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQuamQc9OjY  (for the neck lead tone)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7wcHZaWQPM (overall Lead and rythm tone)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvlb3V-Szhc  (Rythm tone)

please watch the vids to get a clear reference :-)
Thanks.
Which pickups would you suggest me to get for bridge and neck positions?
Best Wishes
Joseph

Btw the equipment that I use:
Marshall AVT 100, a DSL 100, Mesa Dual Recto and Mark V.
Effects I use Eventide Stompboxes (Timefactor, Modfactor) and TC Electronics G Major 2

As nobody has suggested anything yet, I'll offer my 2 cents worth, though it will possibly be wrong.

It seems to me that a Cold Sweat set would cover that ground well and should be effective in a mahogany SG or alternatively, maybe a Cold Sweat neck and Nailbomb bridge; probably an Alnico V Nailbomb as that would cover a lot of ground tonally.

c-bomb bridge + cold sweat neck
maybe a cold sweat set
if your les paul is dark and dense sounding like my '73, the cold sweat would be perfect
but, in my experience, new les pauls tend to sound brighter, more open, resonant and not as focused, so I'd probably go with the c-bomb

Welcome to the forum. Always nice to have a few more lefties on here!  I listened to the clips, first time i have heard the opeth one  it is rather nice and melodic. In terms of what I would recommend I have not got a clue.  I would suggest you email the Tim at bare knuckle, either him or one of the team should be able to advise you with the examples you have listed.
